I backed i into my mom's xterra and now I gotta pay for my stuff. I was considering just buying the parts off the Ford Parts Network and doing the fix myself. I was thinking of jus shaving the lift gate of the wiper and handle. I'm looking at the parts site right now but I'm not sure which parts I need(I'm going to get the tail light off ebay). Any help would be appreciated. thx

well here are the pics of mine:

You'll need a completely new liftgate. Too bad your bumper isn't silver/grey, I could get you one pretty cheap! a little scratched but otherwise great....

P.S. the liftgate win't be cheap. If it where me I would take some time and see if I could staighten it out, pound out the dents, and then use bondo to smooth it out if necessary.

yo, if you think it will be cheaper.. I got a junkyard up here that has a pristine green hatch off a 95 or so.. it'd need to be painted (thats why I think it may cost as much) but its in otherwise perfect condition, uuh.. heres the contact info.

GIBBS AUTO WRECKING CO (706) 722-6848

I would give you a picture of this truck but I'm on campus and can't access that pic from here.

the trucks a 95 green 2wd XLT, it was loaded, its mostly intact. They will also have that left taillights for you probablly for about $25-30 as a guess.

Hope this helps, sorry to see that man.. had the same thing happen about uh, 3 years ago, cept my mom was driving my car and hit her own shwew.. $800 damage on my truck, $1800 on her towncar, glad she was driving hehe

wow.,.. that sucks.. howd it happen?

For lights try

autobodypanels.com and headlightwharehouse.com I have uses these Taiwan replacements and have been happy with them.

I'm not too worried about the tail light since i can get those pretty good. Though my dad left a estimate from a local body shop and they're charging 600 for the lift gate. I saw it for 498 on the ford parts site, plus the place is nickle and diming me with the emblems and ****. I could care less about those.

$600 isn't bad. New one = $500 plus paint, your not gonna get it sprayed for under $100 unless you do it yourself.

hey uh, outta curiosity, what are you gonna do with that busted taillight? I think there are a few people (not sure on this) that are/were working on a version of a do-it-yourself altezza lense, and could probablly use that lense backing.. since the fronts already removed :)

I dont recall any names, but I'm sure someone could use it for such.

ohh. then yeah that's good, but how much for shipping? You really should check junk/salvage yards you might get lucky.

i had the same issue with mine a little while back. wife backed it into my 75 bronco. waited long enough and found a guy here parting out a 97, and got the hatch complete for $100. look around for a week or two, or check ebay for "parting out" stuff. you may find one cheap like i did.

when you do this definitely don't put emblems on. if your gonna repaint it you may as well fill the alignment holes and ditch the emblems (thats what i did in the same sort of situation) also you really may want to ditch the wiper! i didn't, but i regret it now.

I want to do this in the future. I can fill the holes myself, but I'm wondering now much it would cost to get the hatch painted?

hartman, are you gonna bondo them? or weld them shut? mine are welded, it would suck if the bondo ended up not looking right in the cold or whatever. i think it would probably be right around 100-150 dollars to get that professionally sprayed. less if you can find a shop that lets you do most of the prep work and stuff.

Well my grampa decided to foot the bill(1150) so him being really nice and cool about this has bailed my ass out. My X is goign into the body shop tomorrow, so I asked my dad if he could tell the guy to save the busted tail light and he said he would ask. So I guess I'll get it back by the end of the week if I'm lucky. Also, I am losing the emblems and my rear windshield wiper, according to the guy he can order the tailgate w/o the windshield wiper hole, so I told him to ditch it.

What the Ranger guys do is JB Weld a filler plate to the back of the hole, then fill the hole with body filler, sand, prime, and paint. I figure that would work good without having them welded up.

that will work until it gets really cold in the dead of winter here in minnesota and it shrinks, and cracks the paint...
