the white one...
I want to put a single 10" sub in the back of my Explorer.
I've seen the Q-Logic boxes that are fitted for the little cubby hole in the rear. I just can't consider shelling out close to $200 for a box. Am I missing something here?
I'm hoping to make my own enclosure to fit the cubby hole.
The volume for a sealed box is .6 cu ft. Ported is 1.25 cu ft. BTW, which is better? Sealed or ported?
I'm hoping someone has made thier own sub box to fit this location and could share some info...
Thanks

Well, I just bought a used JL Audio box that goes back there for a little over $200 w/a sub. Still waiting to get it.

About the best type of box, it all depends on what sub you have and what the manufacturer recomends. Some subs will do terrible in ported boxes, some will do terrible in sealed, and some will go with either.

I think if you tried to make your own you would have a heck of a time tryin to do it, and I think it would be kind of exspensive.

Ported boxes take more air volume than sealed, so I think you'd need to go sealed anyway. I don't think you'll be able to get a box that takes 1.25 air space, *not including the sub*, so it would really be pretty large. So, it's up to you to find a sub that does well in small enclosures, which tends to be the more expensive subs, unfortunately. :( I don't think you could get a port that short to point out anyway, so I think you'll have to look at a sealed box, unless you want to make a small one that fits right behind the rear seats, which would be cool too.

My system uses the Q-Logic 10" subwoofer enclosure for the Ford Explorer (1991-99). My subwoofer of choice is the Orion 2NTense series 10SVC sub. It's a perfect sub for the application, it requires only .85 cu/ft. I'm probably the most loyal fan of Orion products, I've been using Orion since 1995 when I had my first system installed.

I'll have my web site up and running here in a few days. I hope that the pics I have taken and posted on the site will help people like yourself get a creative idea started.

My opinion about this cubby hole thing is this; if you get it installed and your run an amp to it, most likely it will rattle like crazy and it will sound very bad. This will only happen if you turn up your system up and blast it. The only way to prevent this is to get a small amp or not turn up the volume ( who really drives with the music down low). The best way is to get a sub and put it in a single box. Then you just pick a side and put it there and for the amp, bolt it to the back of the seat. This might not be the best responce to your question but this is comming from a guy who bumped 141.6 db for his first time at a competition. The best combination is a Crossfire amp (www.Crossfireaudio.com)and Audiobahn subs.
