So in my 01 explorer (RIP) i had two 12" MTX in a nice big sealed box. Of course this will not work now so im trying to figure out what to do. I saw some ppl try to put boxes behind the back seats but i dont wanna take out the cargo box so thats out. So its all under the passenger seat. So far only two choices i see are the mtx thunderform with 4500 sub or the regular box everyones selling for it.

Which one is better? MTX has always been good to me, be easy to wire up. Other box is way cheaper and i can put any shallow mount sub in i want but the issue is box size. It only has .45 cubic feet and almost every 10" sub i see needs atleast .65 .... So right now im leaning towards the thunderform.

Whats everyones opinion. I dont need bass like i had in my explorer but i do want a good sounding sub that can be loud and hit hard when i want it to be. I have a amp that can put out around 400 rms bridged or 125 per channel. Is that overkill for anything i put under the seat?

Any help and pictures is very appreciated. Headunit is a AVIC Z1 updated with Z3 software. 4 channel alpine powering infinity components in front and kicker speakers in the back.

You have several choices if you want some good sounding bass. The shallow mount subs are the only way to go in the sport trac so choose wisely.I personally chose a Rockfor Fosgate 2 ohm DVC 10" sub to run on my alpine 300 watt rms amp. The sub handles 150 watts per voicecoil, and with the 2 ohm setup it dosen't make the amp run hot. Also Alpine has several to choose from that range from 300 watts rms to 600 watts rms at 4 ohm. There are a few other companies that also make them but they didn't reall have the power handeling I wanted I reasearched this for about a month and I ended up ording all of my stuff on line because it was cheaper and I got free shipping. I used a sit called Sonnic Electronix they were great to me and even helped me fix the miss wired subwoofer that the shop screwed up.I think if you want to pay the money a shop can hook you up with a few more options but if you just want to make it simple then these are some good options.

i say keep it simple. in my old 4x4, i ran 2 alpine competition type R 12's through a bandpass box powered by a MTX monoblock 2500w amp with a montster cap and infinity kappas through 0g wiring. that setup hit like no other, but over time and with all the driving i did, it fried out my transmission and electronics. you didn't mention how many channels your amp was, if i was putting subs in my ST, i would just go with a pair of high quality 8's, and get some custom boxes made for under each of the backseats. i think for a car or a sedan, or even a dropped truck or SUV, they can handle an extensive sub setup, but if you drive your truck or SUV hard, or drive on a lot of rough roads, id keep the sub setup to a minimum. just my opinioon from having subs in my old SUV. here are a few 8 inch subs that i think are pretty good. you can find them for cheaper than the prices on these links if you look hard enough.

in my opinion, i would rather have these 8's than 12'' rockfords or kenwoods.

The 8 inch sub of today can fill a small truck with bass. JBL,Sundown & JL Audio make very loud 8s. I use one 10 inch sub in my Ranger. It hits very hard in the ported box I built. Its a good sub for the price & goes good & low & isn't sloppy sounding due to the tuning of my box. It can be used in a .5 box also but it is not as loud. I'd but a high quality 8 in a sealed box if space was a issue & a ported box if it would fit. A ported box tuned to 30 hz will need less power & fill your truck with good clean bass.
