You have to remove the whole right rear interior panel to get to the factory sub.

Yes

On an unrelated note, turn off your Caps Lock key.

Yes.

It's been to many years since I took mine out to remember what was holding it in.

Is this one of them that has the screw in the back of the enclosure into the back of the sub...?

There are four screws/bolts holding the enclosure to the side, well at least in my Explorer. You can see two black ones above the sub, one silver one (not stock) to the left of those, and one green one near the bottom left corner of the stock amp. Click on the link below the pics to see a larger size.

Rear Sub Removal

From the posts in this threads it looks like in order to remove the factory sub from the enclosure, you must remove the enclosure first. As was asked previously - is there a screw or some other way the sub is fixed to the enclosure? Mine is loose, I can rotate it in the enclosure but it won't pop out. Not really looking forward to pulling the trim panel and assembly out, but if I have to I have to... My factory sub has started to buzz or rattle, thanks to my kids cranking the bass up!

There is a 10mm bolt through the back of the enclosure into the woofer. You must remove the box to get to it.

Joy!! :) Thanks for the info.
