Sub Replacement, Need tips!

Hey fellas; here's what I'm up to: I am replacing the factory sub with a 10" Clarion Pro Audio model and am gonna' power it with a Clarion mono channel 100W amp. I'm running a Pro Audio head unit with 35x4 and it has two sets of RCA's. My question is: What is the best way to wire this so that the head unit drives my seperates and the amp ONLY drives the sub??? Any replies are much appreciated!!! Dead Link Removed

worm, the only way to do this is to use a crossover or a passive eq-- that is an equalizer with no power since you cannot run amp power through a powered unit or vice-versa with out burning it up. you can get a passive unit starting at around $50.00 and a electronic crossover starting around $60.00.

I had the same senario so I switched to the 7375Pro Audio - it has 3RCA outputs: Front, Rear and Subwoofer. Its all connect to my Sony EQ.

Okay, what if the amp I have already has a crossover built into it? Would that work??? Or what if I used the speaker level inputs and just ran a lead from one of the rear speakers???

If the amp already has a crossover, you can just run the rcas straight to it. Running the amp off the speaker level wires will degrade the sound, which may or may not be noticable depending on the equipment and installation. But generally speaking, if you can use the preamp level, do it.

The way you do it is, connect your separates to the front speaker wires on the headunit, connect the amp the one set of the rca's on the headunit, the sub to the amp speaker input and that's it.

If i were you i'd get a eq and run your two rca line outs to it then get a four channel amp for the front/rear. On passave eq's there is a sub out also, connect your other amp to it then to your sub. You'll have more power, better sound than using your head unit for the front rear speakers. That's what i would do Dead Link Removed Later...
