Hey i was looking to out subs into my 2k2 Explorer XLT with the folding 3rd row seats. I was trying to figure out where to put them without losing the 3rd row. There isnt really any room under the 2nd row seats so i was lookinbg for new ideas about where to mount to them.

There really isn't anywhere to put subs except to make a custom box that fits in the tiny space behind the third row.

a couple of ideas

I have an 04 with third row. I put my cd changer under the second row but mounted to the seat so when it tilts up I have direct access to it. I have an amp I am installing under the other seat the same way to power the doors. My thoughts for subs is to try and lace something behind the rear panels near the third row. It is going to be difficult to remove the paneling to see whats behind there but if possible will not take up any space. My second though is to place one smaller sub directly under the middle console under the compartment. Possibly a downfiring sub. This is just a thought and could possibly not work at all but will take the console apart next weekend. I'll let you know

I couldn't mount any speakers in the rear panels, since thats where I mounted the amp. My amp was just barely shorter than the stock sub/box/amp that was mounted in the panel.

speakers

The panel I was thinking of is the large panel that has no spaces in it. In front of the storage compartments but behind the rear doors. My explorer did not come with the factory sub, did they put it in the same place as the 2nd gen? My 2nd gen had the factory sub. My thoughts were to remove that large panel on either side, if there is enough space either build a box, or build a plate to hold a free air sub. I am new to this though so my ideas may be way off.
