I did a search on this and came up with pretty much one thing: It's gonna happen. :( Now here's another idea, My setup is 3 Memphis PR 12's fed by a Memphis 1000D amp. I have the subs facing the hatch. Would it stop if I faced the subs toward me or have another box built to fire the subs down? If this doesn't fix it then what could I possibly do to fix this? I won't even turn my system up cause it sounds like sh*t from the outside and it's embarassing. If there's no way to greatly reduce the rattle then I'm just gonna sell the system. By the way, I have 01' XLS with wiper on back. Help please!!!

I really dont think you can stop it completely. Try firing them in a different direction, that may help. You can try putting sound proofing material in the hatch, that will probably give you the best result.

So it's the whole door rattling or is it the trim/panels on the inside that are making noise? But if its the trim/panels of coarse there is dynomat or whatever it is called. If its your door rattling, then you will have to check out the latch! Oh - here is an easy fix for you....get a piece of heater hose or fuel hose and cut a slab to fit over the latch part (the metal bar) and then depending on what thickness it needs to completely shut without still being open - that should take away the "loose-ness" in your door. Could be an easy fix - but I can't remember how the rear latch is done - if it's like a hood or what - just my opinion! Good luck. And yeah - I heard Explorers are pretty much the last thing to buy for a rattle-free SUV.

its probably the panels cause mine rattle as well

The panels are gonna rattle, as is the glass. Another thing to check is your rear wiper. When I had my 2 10's the wiper would rattle like crazy when it wasn't in use.

have you ever heard of dynamat it goes on the hatch itself it will stop most of the
rattle

my old/first ex w/ 4 12"s I dynamatted the metal skin of the hatch and most anywhere else that was metal, then I placed thick carpet under foam stuff (scientific name :p ) under the plastic hatch trim.
Helped the rattles majorly, I plan on doing the same thing with this one..

wonder if it would stop if you took the subs out :p

Ya, when I took my subs out the rattling completely went away...

:D

Yeah but what's the fun in that ;)

I tried a lot of things to stop the rattling too, including a ton of sound deadener in the liftgate. More hassle than it was worth!
