I put my truck in 4wd today to get out of a wet lot near work and when I got out it will not shift out of 4wd. I have taken the switch apart an it looks fine. Anyone have any suggestions on what else to try.

Just had this problem a couple months ago. Was out of town, so off to the local Ford dealer. The motor in the transfer case was replaced and the transmission position sensor ring. Cost several hundred dollars. Might have been close to $1000 but hundreds of miles from home in a daily driver, what else could I do.

Several people have had luck by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it -- somehow someway that resets everything and forces the motor out of 4LO.

Try not to put it in 4LO. 99.9% of the time, 4LO is not needed -- stick with 4HI IF it's actually called for. 4LO only increases torque for climbing inclines and does not increase traction.

Assuming this parking lot is paved (asphalt/concrete or hard-packed gravel), putting the vehicle in 4HI or 4LO in a wet parking lot is probably uncalled for as there is a chance of doing damage to the drivetrain as it binds when the steering wheel is turned.

And you did remember to have your foot on the brake and put the transmission selector in Neutral when moving the switch to 2wd???

Forgot to mention, mine actually came out of 4wd but remained in low range. Drive to the nearest dealer was 90 miles, took me hours.
