1999 Mountaineer
This past weekend I picked up a replacement for my recently deceased 92 Explorer. I got a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer with ~65k miles (little bit of an upgrade). Anyway its running perfectly as far as i can tell since this weekend but would like to make sure it stays that way. I don't have an owners manual or any previous maintenance records so I don't know what has or hasn't been done on the car or what needs to be done. Could someone please give me a list of things they would do right off the bat just to keep the car in top running condition. Only thing I have had time to do so far is replace the air filter as it was pretty disgusting, and it took all of 2minutes.

Also in additon to maintenance... It came with the factory tape/radio, is it possilbe to swap out (plug and play) for the factory cd/tape/radio? Also the rear sub isn't working is it really neccessary to take the whole back half of the trunk out basically to get to the sub instead of just removing the pastic mesh cover?

thanks for all that reply

Change all the fluids like oil, coolant, transmission, and transfer case. Axles are optional at this point but at least make sure they have enough lube in them. Fuel filter. If the shocks look original I'd change them. See what the accessory drive belt looks like. Alignment depending on what the front tires look like.
