I want to install a new air filter for the '97 explorer eddie bauer 4.0 SOHC

Where i live, summer temperature highs are generally about 45-49 C (120 F) and some days they can peak at about 52 C (125 F). Summers are really long here too... almost 6 full months from late april to mid october (its just beginning to cool down a bit now). Winters arent anything too bad but for the past few years it would rain quite a bit (unusual) for 3-4 days straight which means theres a little flooding considering this country's lack of drainage preperation for so much rain. So i cant really afford something that would get soaked and drag water into my engine... but needs to be optimal for the hottest weather..

any ideas?

i would really appreciate a specific model.. but if not, just a general brand and type of filter would be great! (cone filters, standard filters, those fancy ones with carbon fiber and whatnot).. price is definitely a limiter.. but i still dont know how substantial the difference between each type of filter would be. anyone mind explaining that while we're at it?

thanks

cone filter cold air intakes give you better gas milage and perfomance. There is K&N, KKM, and MAC cold air intakes. Most of those models are widely used on this forum and are different prices.

I also live in a severe heat climate. I cannot suggest any type of cold air induction (CAI) in your climate. The term CAI is an oxymoron. Those kits do little to pull in outside air and in fact, tend to pull underhood air. At least the factory box pulls air from the front of the radiator support. I would stay with that. At least during the summer months.

I'd recommend True Flow cold air intakes. I think they are based out of Arizona as well, so they know about high temperatures!:)
