Sun Roof

I have a explorer with the retractable cover on the sun/moon roof. and every time i hit a bump in the road it rattles, its annoying as hell. does anyone have an idea on how to stop it? Thanks a bunch, -Tim.

I have a 98 that had the same problem when new... sounded like someone had rubber-banded a hammer right over my head.

To fix it (after repeated attempts to tell me it was a 'functional operating characteristic of the sunroof') they dropped the headliner and discovered that the inner roof brace around the opening was missing a piece of foam rubber that insulated it from hitting the outer roof panel.

Not saying that's necessarily your problem, but it might be. FWIW, the sun shade on mine always rattles unless it's in the full open or full closed position.
