Had to take the Ex in to work today (it was last in the drive) and on the way found myself being dripped on by some VERY cold water. Looking up the headlining by the front O/S corner of the sunroof was sodden!! Pressing with the finger got a trickle out..... That was the only spot though....

I'm guessing the seal on the sunroof lid has hardened and started allowing water in. Has any one else come across this and can verify it????

hi not sure if the explorer is the same as other fords but they have drain tubes from the sunroof to the sills maybe one of the tubes is blocked i had a sierra that got blocked by a leaf and it always used to drip on my head lol till i cleaned the tube then it was fine

Probably is!! :) :) I can feel a poke with a lump of wire coming on..........

go for it i know on the sierra you could see the drain holes when you run the sunroof open there at the front edges

I have the same problem but on the other side and i have checked my drain lines and they are clear..

On mine it's in the front corner i dont know if it is the same for you

i had the same problem it turned out to be one of the drain tubes had come off. to test them pour some water on the roof if the drain tubes are connected the water runs down if you look just in front of the front doors you should see the water on to the ground.

I had a damp patch on the nearside front corner it turned out to be the window seal i (very gently) lifted the window away from the seal with a screwdriver then re-sealed itwith clear silicone sealant

Checked the drain tubes - all "seemed" OK - interestingly, I found that if I jiggle the open/close switch and get the roof in a certain position there's no leak.

Weird or what????

The 95-01 models have a much larger water catch basin which drains through four tubes. The older models have seals which when hard allow enough water in to overflow the basin(hit brakes in rain, pours on head).

I am suggesting that you should be able to leave the sunroof barekly cracked open, and a mild water stream should drain fast enough, with no water inside. The drains are the most critical components in the 95-01 sunroofs. Each is a hose about .375" in diameter, they lead straight down the "A" and "B" pillars.

Someone suggested a water test above, do that again. Flow a water hose at a slow trickle(3/8" water hose speed). Open the sunroof all the way, and carefully feed the water into the channel. You should be able to place the water anywhere along the perimeter, and it should all flow down the tubes.

Make sure that you get very good flow from all four tubes, below the body. Don't overdo the water, you just need enough to verify flow through the tubes. I'll bet that there is some kind of blockage or leak around a tube. Good luck,
