My sunroof suddenly stopped retracting, I used compressed air to blow away anything that may be in tracks, but nothing changed. It still opens "up" but wont go back. Has anyone had this problem? if so what was it? I'm guessing some sensor died.

Have you checked out the switch connections? checked for power then you are activating the switch? Checked the relays that actuate the sunroof motor either direction?

There are two different motors (or at least two different 12v leads), one controls the up/ down, and one controls the back and forth. If you pull the front overhead console you should be able to put power to each and see if it's a switch or motor.

Forgot to say that the sunroof goes down and "starts" to move back but them stoppes after moving only about 1/4"
I think I will try jumping power just to rule that out.

If it comes down to it, I have an ENTIRE sunroof assembly, still in the 1997 Explorer that I am parting out, I know it works....

It's yours for FREE. You just have to come get it. I'm in Bremerton.

Same problem here!!

I am having the exact same problem. It has power to both relays. It just drops, slides about 1/4-1/2" and then stops. Tilt works fine. Mine happened after the wife left it tilted and we got a nasty storm. Not sure if its coincidence or not. Can't see anything blocking the track, etc. Ideas?
