looking at the sticker from when my truck was new, uinder the list of optional equipment it lists "super engine cooling - no charge"

so, what's that mean, that they put anti-freeze in instead of plain water, or do i actually have a larger radiator, or...? the only other thing listed as "no charge" is the front license plate bracket... knowing that the dealer never gives nothing away for free i'm just curious what this was/is.

I think it's just a larger radiator. Mine came with a wimpy 1 or 2 core. Changed that out for a brass 3 core. I couldn't run the a/c in stop/go traffic without getting too hot.

For the last several years (since '95 I think) all Explorers come standard with Super Engine Cooling. It is just a larger radiator and comes standard on vehicles equipped with A/C. Since the Explorer comes standard with A/C, the Super Engine Cooling is standard. You paid for it in the base price, it wasn't a "freebie" thrown in. When I purchased a Ranger new in '94, adding A/C also added the Super Engine Cooling. Did the Explorer always come standard with A/C? If not, then whenever the A/C became standard is probably when the Super Engine Cooling became standard.

Nope, didn't always come with AC. AC was optional on my 91...not sure when it went standard.

maybe it went standard when it switched from r12 r134a... i have r 134a in my 94
