Has any tried these new electric Supercharger Turbo's that you put inside your intake, they say 30 hp for 50 bucks. Has any one tried this, they make them for every car, i am interested in getting one but i am skeptical.

thanks

You can't make chicken salad from Chicken s***, no matter how much mayonayse you use......

Firstly, welcome to the site!

Those electic fans that they call superchargers can actually create some boost pressure in the intake and make a little power. However, this is only in a very short portion of the powerband and they're a restriction most of the time. So yes, they can make power, but most of the time you'll lose power or they'll do nothing at all.

Superchargers by Weed Eater.

Go to your local hardware store and get you a leaf blower, some 3" snorkel tubing and a DC-AC inverter. Hook that up to your truck! If you're going to fab something, at least do it the right way... hehe...

Good idea LowdPypes. LOL! He is probably going to try it now. See what you have done. LMAO!

And 94W.I.P.
Get the 5hp motor works much better in higher rpms.

by design, isnt a supercharger turbo somewhat of a contradiction in a single unit?

Must be referring to Turbodyne's "TURBOPAC". It is an electric turbocharger that is technically referred to as an EDC (Electronic Demand Charger). These are designed to provide a momentary boost for initial acceleration and passing. They were specifically for turbo charged diesel engines to eliminate turbo lag and provide smoother acceleration curves. They can be used on normally asperated engines with no fuel system modifications. They draw approximately 25 amps when in operation. They were selling for about $1500 in 1999 and provide about a 10% increase in HP. However, real world (NON-DYNO) would be more like 6% increase in HP depending on the application. Guess you can always give one a try. You could get an e-RAM for $300 and try it. There are others out there, but the Turbodyne's is the first unit that I ever saw on the market with several others in the past year or so. Where did you find one for $50? Let us know.

I actually have one...

I played around with one in my '93 honda Prelude. The product was called an "eRam", and did work.

If I remember correctly, it cost around $300, and fit inline with the intake tube. A switch activated by WOT would turn it on. It didn't draw much electrical power, and it really did move some air.

Yes, it did add torque to the bottom RPM range, below about 4k rpms. Nothing noticeable above 5k rpms, but it didn't hurt performance. I did not see a decrease in gas milage from it, because it only operated at WOT. and it wasn't a signifigant restriction at crusing speeds.

I didn't get a chance to dyno my car with/without it, but it did make a difference at the track. I repeatedly gained 2-tenths in the 1/4 mile over my baseline. If it was deactavated, but still in the intake tube, i would lose 1 to 2-tenths from baseline, because of the restriction at WOT and high RPMs.

It would be interesting to install it on the explorer, because my 4L really lacks the bottom end that i want.

Good luck!
-Brad

Save your money...

It's a complete waste of time and money. Until I see dyno charts to prove me wrong. Turbos typically spin between 100,000 to 150,000 rpms. Nothing of that magnitude is even going to come close. Please don't waste your money.

I bet if you used it in conjunction with at least 3 tornado's and 4 powerstack spacers you could get at least an extra 200 HP at the rear wheels...

What will they think of next? How about a big rubber band that launches you off the starting line!!!!

Oh and did you guys see that BMW a few years back on the internet where the guy actually did mount a leaf blower to his hood and drive it around! It was hilarious!!!!! I think he is either incredible with Photoshop or he actually did cut up a spare hood for his 635 CSI and mount a big board with a leaf blower on it, plumbed it into his intake and drove around racing people!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I gotta go get some folgers cans for my exaust tip so if you need me leave a message............

So the tornado KI-80 would be a waste of money? I really do not understand what it does and I am interested in why it is a waste.

Dude the "tornando" is a metal insert that goes in your intake tube to "swirl" the air. We all know that when air "swirls" through an intake manifold it;s instant power!

Basically with a few intake mods to remove the restrictions on your 4.0L V-6, SOHC V-6, or 5.0L V-8 the engine is gonna be able to suck all the air it needs.

These are gimmiks. They dont offer any real world advantages. Kinda like this new Pennzoil, "specialy formulated for hot weather" That is such BS!!!!!
they make it sound as if you live in Arizona and it's 100 degrees outside you are being extra hard on your engine, unless you use this specially formulated oil, it will save your engine under the extra hot conditions.

Now it doesnt matter if it's 40 degrees outside or 125 degrees outside, your engine and cooling system are still gonna run at the same tempature, or real close to it, about 210 degees on most stock vehicles. Of course your engine can make more HP when the air is cooler outside, but your engine isnt gonna overheat when its super hot outside, it doesnt have anything to do with it.... It;s a gimmik, a marketing ploy, so suckers who dont know any better, will buy the product.

Now I wish I designed, tested, built, and sold the tornado, they must have sold 10 million of those baby's to poor unsuspecting fools thinking it's a bolt in 30 HP upgrade for their Honda's.

So does the Tornado work in theory? Yes. Does it work in the real world? Maybe for a .005 HP gain in an Explorer, but I can get 3-5 real world HP by taking that $80 and spending it on a K&N filter and some octane booster.
If anything that Tornado insert just gets in the way and restricts your intake airflow even more!!!

HAHAHAHA And another one is that Quaker state oil Specialy formulated for todays 4x4's. Damn those guys are smart. Lets see, 4x4's are selling more then ever, lets market our oil at the soccer moms driving them.....

Do you think a 4.0L in a 4x4 Explorer see's higher rev's then a 4.0L in a 2wd Explorer? No, it does haul more weight around. But do you think there is a difference between the "regular" quaker state oil and the 4x4 oil? NOPE. It;s a marketing ploy.

Besides I have something that you really need! Send me your $$$ and I'll make you a 6" exhaust tip, dont worry it's a "special" resonator tip with a fan that expells exhaust gasses at twice the normal speed, at least 20 HP guaranteed!

Holy crap, thats a good one, I gotta get an infomercial.....

Just for kicks, a friend of mine did get a leaf blower motor and a large power inverter. He tested it at the track. Essentially, it gave him about 50 hp below 2500 rpms. 2500-4000 nothing. 4000+, major restriction in the intake.

It drew lots of power and with all the stuff to get it to work, it was $$$. He ended up returning everything (his plan all along), so it was just for fun.

Okay so I gotta run out and buy a gas powered leaf blower, hook it up to my ram air and blamo! insta drag race 4x4 (as long as I shift at 2500 RPM's)

Better load up on 2 cylce oil.....

you were right...

As a human, I am ashamed to say that I don't doubt if someone hasn't done that already... scary.

I always wanted to try that...

with my 88hp 86 Mustang. Plumb in an old gas leaf blower to the carb (yes a carb) intake and see what it would do.

I do have this old Homelite 150MPH gas leaf blower that I could try....

ha i have one of those electric supercharger from ebay... let's take a vote... respond yes or no if i should install it lol

Those "Superchargers" are builge pumps for outboard engine boats that sell for 30$

What are you going to do when that cheesy little plastic fan blade snaps off makes its way though your TB into the haed and possible into a cylinder. In case no one knows, I'll tell ya...... rebuild.

Its a great scam though.

Update: Installed Diablo Chip damn what an improvment! My lawnmower get an extra 2hp when in walk speed! Of corse now i gotta buy prem gas.

btw i have been buying that 4x4 oil for it. You know when i put it in low 4x4 mode, gives me that extra peace of mind.

btw2 castol works great for HJ's. yeah does not break down or nothing. Good thing too.. i mean all that high RPM's your doing...

Edited: Decided to buy a roll cage for it. I may paint it pumpkin color too.
