Superchip and Headers

Wasss up fellow explorer owners...
My question is simple what's the best superchip?
I'm also interested in headers and I'm also looking
to upgrade the sparkplug wires..Any help will be appreciated....Thanks

If you do a search on chips, I think the concensus is that Superchips brand is the best. I just got mine installed today, check my post under the modified section.

Good luck finding headers. I'm planning on getting some in the future also, but have only come up with two suppliers for the 5.0. Our sponser, Explorer Express is one (not sure if it is a specific "brand") and James Duff is the other. Prices ranged $239-$438. Anyone seen others?

I think Explorer Express carries the BBK headers, not positive, though.

Speaking of chips, I have mine installed and really enjoy the response and extra kick. But on the carparts.com ad it claims a 45hp increase. I don't think I'm getting THAT much of an increase. Has anyone tried a before and after test? Or do you think that their claim is the max you can get assuming you do a bunch of other mods that take advantage of the superchip's configuration. 260+hp should feel pretty awesome.

Hey Tekeman, I wouldn't believe what carparts says. When you see these adds for "adds XX-XX hp",the reason they don't advertise a certain number is because it all depends on what else ya got! Yeah, ya probably could get 45hp outta the chip IF you get more mods with it. I think if you go to Superchips.com you can find that the dyno's for the Superchip on the explorer yeild about 17 at-the-wheel hp's. That's another thing, sometimes the may list engine hp gains vs. at-the-wheel gains.

I paid $230.00 for my Superchip at http://performanceford.com. But then I found Ultimate Explorations and found out you can get a discount at http://www.smartyparts.com by being a member of this site! I think they were getting them from smartyparts for about 180..somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!

I got my superchip from Smartyparts, it is 170 if you mention you are a memeber of this board. Chis Scott is the guy you will talk to, he is very nice. If you are going to get a chip I highly reccomend him

Man.. these hp gains are bogus. Im looking forward to getting a superchip though, but now JET is taking my chip back and is supposed to replace it with a functioning one. (I was losing 5hp before...) If I gained 5hp with a chip, I would be impressed. but with all my mods I think I only got 28hp or so... Thats engine HP at least...
