I have a Power Programmer III for a 1998 5.0 ONLY! If anyone is interested in buy it.:p

well I definately noticed a jump in power... the only thing I am not real fond iof is that the transmission shifts harder, but that is great when your flooring it :). Definately noticed a seat of the pants feel.

Awww... too rough for you? :( Wimp. :p :D The improved shifting was the main reason I bought mine. I like to feel the tranny change gears, that way I know it's not slipping.

I'm lookin to get me one of those chips too, just to make sure, most of you have the 4.0 v-6 true or not...
Just want to make sure before I go and get one

Yep.

4.0 V6

the chip I have is for my 5.4L V8, but I had one in my 4.6L V8 at one time too and it definately improved that as well. Most everyone on here with a chip has the 4.0L V6.

Any 5.0Ls???

Does anyone actually have a Superchip on a 5.0L Explorer?

If so, please tell me what changes YOU felt. Thanks of course to the v-6 owners, but as I'm sure you can understand I'd like to know what I can really expect.

Does the fuel economy go down because of the chip? and how is it installed like a reprogrammer or an actual chip thats installed in the computer?

In theory, fuel economy should go up just a bit. Realistically though, once you get the chip in, your driving habits prevent you from seeing any improvement.

The Suerchip is a small module that plugs into the diagnostic port on the back of the X's computer.

Well most people tend to give it more gas to test the chip out, but i think since you'll be putting premium in and settling down on the gas after awhile that you might see a slight increase.

Yeah, once again in theory that should be true. I got my chip a year ago, anf you would think that would be the case. However, as I just got my exhaust a few weeks ago, it's back to square one. Oh well. Maybe one day I'll run out of things to do to my X, and then finally I can get some good gas milage. :)

Thanks for the info

so, we di have ti run on 93 octane for the chip? cannot do it on 87 octane?

The chip advances the engine timing to gain more power, which usually requires 93 octane. You may get by with 89 or 87, but you also may get "pinging" which can damage the engine. All engines are different so you will have to try and see what octane your vehicle will need. You want to run the lowest octane rating without pinging.

I've found (and others have told me the same thing) that on NEWER explorers and F-150s even using a lower octane doesn't result in pings. The newer ones have "ping sensors" that are able to keep it from pinging even with lower octane. However, your still better off running the higher octane.

If they do indeed have the ping sensors then when the computer detects pinging, it pulls timing to fix the problem, thus negating the purpose of the chip. If we have ping sensors, run 93 octane only.

I made the jump and it was well worth the money! You will notice it whether your putting it in or taking it off (the chip that is).

hey, config, was that chip on a v8 or v6?

I have the V6. You just need to get the code off your computer.
