I am going to install the 5.5" superlift kit sometime in
January or Febuary and I've heard about alot of problems
with this kit from the different forums. Everybody seems
to use it so I assume it doesn't give everyone problems.

Can anyone give me some advice as to what to watch out for,
go ahead, vent your frustrations! Lets here your problems.

Oh yea,I am planning on just the basic lift, without the
radius arms or superrunner steering, thanks for the help.

Just my opinion, Get a Skyjacker lift and order the J-hooks from Superlift (part# 1099). I have both these lifts and like the Skyjacker so much more.

i loved my superlift and really had no problems during the install besides having to grind one of the welds down on a radius arm. All lifts have their problems with the install though, because not all trucks can be exactly the same

thanks for opinions, I'm definately leaning toward the
superlift because of price. Am I going to need longer
shocks in the rear? How do they mount on the SOA brackets?
Oh yea, does the kit come with everything I need besides
brake lines ?? I'm probably going to order the kit from
4wheelparts.com with rancho 5000s, I don't really want
to have to constantly adjust the 9000s.

With the superlift SOA kit, the shocks are actually the same lenght as stock, they are just relocated to on top of the axle rather than below. I can't tell you how the SOA from superlift works exactly, because i did a custom SOA on mine.

A few tips though....
- Have a cutting torch for the rivits. I didn't have one and it was a pain! After mine was done a fella that i work with told me that he had a cutting torch and would have come to do it...i was like..DOH!!! but what he suggested was heat up the head of the rivit, hit the oxygen and blow the head off...then heat up the shaft of the rivit...and blow it through. But be careful with this part...you don't want to blow a hole through the frame that is too big....

- Spray some kind of rust penatrant on all bolts that need to come out a few days ahead of time. do it one day, then the next, then the next, and so forth....so that way they will come off with a little less work..

- Air tools. Thats it....impact wrench helps a lot...the only problem that i faced with this, is i had a pneumatic grinder too (for the rivits)...and these suck air BIG TIME!!! the computessor that i was using didn't have a large enough capacity to work it...so i could only grind for about 20 seconds before the damn thing had to recharge!! grr...and the sockets you use with it....its my personal preferance anyway, but it only helps here...but try to use 6 point sockets....i rounded a few bolt heads because the metal was corroded enought that a 12 point just couldn't get a firm grip...

- Get some kind of a pitman puller (basically a large pickle fork) and a big ol freakin hammer...i had a hellofa time w\ the pitman arm. my ears are still ringing from all the metal on metal pounding that went on!! Dead Link Removed

- The kit will come with every thing you need except extended brake lines. Somthing you might want to do anyway, is while your at it, replace the radius arm bushings....

- Give yourself plenty of time, and a good working enviroment to do this. Its not a difficult lift to put on, but it is time consuming!! Lemme say that again....

IT IS TIME CONSUMING!!!

hehehe....i went into this lift under the impression that it would only take me a weekend to do it. I even made plans to go wheelin w\ some of the guys from this board. Didn't work out. It ended taking me a total of 4 full days by myself...and occasional help from others. I got soooo frustrated too!! So just know some things are gonna be a pain in the ass, but it will be well worth it at the end. WELL worth it.....

Others can add more, but for now im done....my fingers are cramping up...hehe...good luck!! these guys are great for helping on here....got questions? ask em...you get any number of replys!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

well...at first i figured that i could grind off the heads w\ the pnuematic grinder....yeah right...since the compressor was too small, that didn't work. so what i ended up doing was on an old crappy circular saw, i had a metal cutting blade, and i got in there and cut the heads off. Then, on the shaft of the rivit, i took a drill and drilled out a hole about as big as the shaft itself. I just so hapened to have a punch about that size, so i put it in there, and beat the hell out of it. Eventually they popped out.

does that make any sense? sorry if it didn't....i just woke up...hehehe......

well the only thing i can add would be to make sure you have the right parts before you start the installation.
thats right the right parts!
i was sent the wrong axle pivot brackets and i didnt know it till i actually tried to put them on..
then while the truck was on stands, i waited a week till the right parts arrived.
i really cant blame anyone but myself....
instruction number one says to make sure all part numbers match the numbers on the parts list............
duh!
follow instuctions carefully!
just my 2 cents

well riffman, I think I'll find me a torch some where!
I have a friend that put a lift on his ranger and and
he was able to drill all the rivets out. Unfortunatly
he coulden't get the pitman arm off, he had the tools,
but it was really stuck on there. Thanks for the advice.

Any suggestions on where to get some radius arm bushings?

Riff, 4 days? If I remember correctly it took you like 4 WEEKS to get that thing put on and you ended up taking it to the shop to finish it???????????????

Todd....i totaled up the time it took me...cause a bunch of those days were only 3 and 4 hours a day....and it was about 30-32 hours of work.....so i figured, if i did if for a living..then it would be 4 8 hour days....

and yeah..i took it to a shop to bleed the breaks and get off the pitman....cause even w\ the tool, i couldn't get it off......

grinder, you can pick up ruber bushings at any old parts shop....
