My name is Brian and I'm new to the board. I'm a full time student and have to work a part time job to feed my addiciton of my explorer and my yamaha R6 (sportbike). I'm intrested in the torsion lift because it practially costs nothing. I almost ordered a pair of shackes for the back and planned to go through with it but decided to call the local 4x4 shop first to see what they had to say. The mechanic I spoke with said it was not recommended because the extra stress will wear out the torison bars, it will ride like ****, make the front end sag after a while, and the bars may snap and get pushed through the floorboard when 4 wheelin hard. Has anyboy had this problem? They also quoted me $1100 total for a 4" suspension lift installed. Is $1100 a decient price? Should I go with the lift instead? or do both?

Ah that's a bunch a malarky. None of that is really true. It will ride a little stiffer but the stiffness is welcome because the front end of the explorer is so soft anyway. And it is VERY unlikely the t-bar will snap. Only one person on this board has ever had this happen and only after extremely rigorous 4wheeling and it didn't go through his floorboard.

However, 1100 isn't too bad of a price and any suspension lift is always better than the "budget lift".

$1100?? thats an awesome price!! but back to the TT thing the only time ive ever heard of a torsion bar breaking is when it happened to GJarret only becuse hit took a chuck out of one of his bars from a rock. Dead Link Removed is all the info on that. i know a lot of people have TT and do some hardcore wheelin. but i have never heard of anything like sagging occuring. but i actually am planning on doing this as soon as my tires arrive. but others will have commentary on this but me.

I agree, that is BS, besides even if your Bars did sag, new ones are very inexpensive and easy to replace. I remember looking a few years ago, and they were $50 a piece.

The shop is feeding you a line of BS. The ride won't change, and the only time the bars will be under more stress (after a tt) is when you fully compress the suspension. For everyday driving, the stress will be just about the same.
