Before I begin here's my setup- '93 2 wheel drive explorer xlt bone stock, 183k miles.-- I'm fairly new to explorers but generally know some about 4x4's. I just decided to start fixing up my explorer but don't know the best way to go. I want to fit 33"s and don't want to go very high on a body lift, 1-2" body lift at the max. Could someone explain a spring over axle conversion to me and let me know a general cost for lifting my explorer to fit 33" tires. I also want to convert to a mustang gt 5.0 engine since my explorer has a little over 180k miles on it I thought it would be the perfect time to go for more power and lower miles all in 1 shot. With this setup I could also use some help deciding gearing, any help and suggestions people can give me are greatly appreciated I can't wait to get my X in the sky and out on some bigger trails, Thank you.

Welcome!

There is a bunch of 5.0 swap info around here, you just need to hunt around a bit.

To fit 33s on a first gen Explorer you're gonna have to do a body lift unless you want a pricey suspension lift meant for 4x4s. I'd do a 3" body lift plus a small suspension lift using spacers and shackles, stick your tires on, and be happy ;)

To find out what you need to fit 33's check out this thread Dead Link Removed

Also just as an fyi there is a wonderful search function that this board uses. 99% of the questions to your answers can be found by using it. Im not trying to be a jerk but just letting you know for future reference. Welcome and enjoy the site. :D

After reading around a little more I was wondering if this would be a good setup. SOA in the back to gain 5" of lift, and a 5.5" super lift up front. I want to get the baja look/effect with the front a little higher. I want to run 33" tires so if readers could please give me your personal opinions on this setup it would be appreciated.
