Suspension questions wheel offset and stock travel

Would like to up grade to 315 55 r 20 for city driving and get a set of 33 12.50 r 16 off road

Here in NYC your suspension gets a serious work out.... That's why I was conserned about extra wear and tear.

at 33.5 without gearing upgrades ya might be pushin it especially round town, in nyc its alot of stop and go, which means more wear on the trans, and having a taller final ratio isnt good around the city, on highway better gas mileage, but it takes more oomph to get the ball rollin, so with gas prices right now, imo 32s are a wiser choice basically the 6% rule, look close enough to 33s imo (only a 1 inch difference, and the increase in height is only 1/2 in) and ya get slightly better mileage around town. if its a froader set imo then maybe it doesnt matter as much cause it isnt used frequently. what axle ratio ya got? 355, 373? imo 32s and a locker, heck even 31s will get ya much further than 33 with open. imo use the extra dough from fuel savings etc to get ya a powertrax no slip or something similiar, torsen, etc. 355s and 33s will royally suck imo. 373 and 33 is pushin it even, imo. youll save trans wear by regearin imo. give ya more oomph off the green light... jmo however

once ya do that, i wonder are there used tires round you? dont have to have good tread what ya want etc, but if ya have ya heart set on em 33s, maybe get a set to see how you like gas mileage etc with little tread so if ya dont like em get rid of em like em ya can keep em. the 32s is just my suggestion!

metric is bad, but much more options size wise there. if ya already got 30s wonder if ya can do 32x11.5? not sure if that exists, just goin off what i know for our 15s on the 2g. i know 32s are alright i think someone else i running em, youll lose some off the line if ya dont regear however. i think usually for me my rule of thumb is 1-2 inch diameter increase before looking into gear changes etc. but thats coming from 4 runners and the 2nd gen X... not sure what all changed later with em. technically its supposed to be like 6% increase but im not 100% sure. using the 6% rule it puts ya at 30x1.06=31.8, which is close enough to 32
Running 3.73 gearing right now and not super worried about super acceleration lol.

Most conserned with it's at speed handling. And sure footedness.

Ideally I'd love to convert to full time 4wd with a crawl box eventually. But the big thing I like about this explorer is the way it drives and handles... I just want more range of travel on suspension and ideally wider tires.... Taller would be nice for roll over

Used tires not so much cheaper tires yup! Lol figure I'll hit the calculator and pull up dimensions pick up some kumho tires around the size I want see how they pan out
