SUV tent

Anyone have one and which one is the best....there only seems to be two...a tan/green one and a blu/gray one made by different companies....

any thoughts?

I've never owned one, but I've often thought about getting one. They look pretty handy. But havn't talked myself into buying one yet cuzz still curious on how handy they really are for the money...

Well they go for about $150 on ebay.....and I know if it started to storm it would be nice to jump in the back of the SUV.....

I had the blue one, worked very well. got it for about $100 I believe from Cabela's.

does it attach to the back to the X somehow so you can leave the opening open so you can watch tv from inside the tent?? or reach the cooler/warmer in the X....

If you just want a little awning or shaded area, sorta like a patio to the explorer you could rig up somethin yourself. I took some old tent poles I had and drilled in to em secured em to the ground with tent stakes then I bungee chord them to the tarp I have coming off the open hatch of my truck. Tarp cost me $5 from harbor freight and it worked out great for me last camping trip.

Cabelas has one for $160....how is the flap done for the SUV side? no one shows that part of it in their pictures....so I t makes me worry....I would think that would be a selling point...

I didn't know you could get these for Explorers.. I know that Aztek's can get em...

Alec, did yours have a platform that extends from the back of the explorer? (I'm just tall enough were sleeping in the back of my Sport is difficult)

No, mine didn't have a floor extension. But the rear bumper adds some floor space.

Basically they make the back of the truck seem much roomier and add the screen door and elbow room. They don't add too much usable space.

I find the Explorer just fine as it is for camping. If you want, you can just throw a tarp over the tailgate. It already makes a good shield when it's up. It's quite comfortable to sleep in as well. I am 6' and can stretch out with the tailgate closed. With the rear AC on, seats folded down, and radio controls next to me, I say screw the tent.

Hello everyone, since we are on the subject of tents, I was wondering if there is some type of screen you could buy to fit on the back window, not the hatch but just the glass window itself.

I camp in my Explorer and I just use a couple sections of fiberglass screening. I have some long plastic magnet bars that I use to hold the screen material to the door. Folds up to nothing and I keep it under the back seat.

I am 6' and can stretch out with the tailgate closed. With the rear AC on, seats folded down, and radio controls next to me, I say screw the tent.

Yeah, you're truck is 10" longer than mine. If i close the tail gate, to sleep all night I have to sleep diagonal. But it is long enough to lay with my back against the front seats and my feet against the tail gate while at a drive in theater.

I want to figure out a way to add a 3' platform off of the back of my explorer (basically the length of the tail gate) and then have a tent come down off of that. I could build the platform, but i'd have to find a way to make the tent...
