I been looking everywhere on the web, searched here but can't come up with a definite answer.

What I need to know is what I need to do to swap out a bad 4r44e out of my '96 Exploder with a '95 4r55e that I have from my totaled STX Ranger.

From the searching all I have come up with is that the 44 is 440ftlb capacity and the 55 is 550,but I can not find if I need to swap wiring harnesses, computers,or what else.I can't remember were all I've looked or what pages it was on that said this or that, but some say it's a direct swap and other say it isn't....:angryfire:
I have the complete drivetrain from the Ranger along with all the wiring as I was going to do a BII with a Ranger body but truck got totaled in an accident.

The explorer should be a 4r55 and the ranger could be either a 4r44e or 4r55. Check the trans code on the door jam sticker.

From what I have found the 95-01 Ranger w/4.0 had the 4r55e
95-96 Explorers w/4.0 had the 4r44e,97 was when they swapped to the 5r55
And both the 4's have a trans code T

A lot of good joining this has been....figured as much.
Been doing this kind of **** for over 30 yrs,but over those years I have come to find that most who you talk to (well in this time and age) you may as well talk to a wall because if you don't get 10 wrong answers you get a 1000.Then the majority don't know their ass from a hole in the ground but still try to feed you a line of bullshit and most of those just keep passing on hearsay from some other ***** hack.
Hell anymore if one picks up a new Haynes or Chiltons it's a pile of **** compared to what the old ones used to be.That's the same quality the weekend wrenches and crackerjack *ASE's* are anymore,a big pile.

Your an idiot. Acting like that won't get you any help. From what I know there was NEVER a 4r44e trans behind a 4.0, only the 3.0. I'm done and I hope no one else helps you with that attitude.

Well like many then, you may want to polish up on your info..and not go by hearsay

Here, so you can polish up on your info.

Fair enough. However, the chart I posted is also from the rangerstaion tech forum, transmission section, same as yours.
How can you be sure which transmission yours is?

So you've checked the trans code, and you have both transmissions there with you. If you had any intelligence you would find the answer is right infront of you.
