i dont think it can, well anything can... but why? the a4ld is a worse tranny than your current one....

ok Thanks. So can a newer year than 95 go in??Like the 5r55e? Or can a manuel transmission be put in place of a auto??

you can put a manual in place of a automatic... but again, why? it is a lot of work and firewall modifying, plus a lot of plumbing that would be very hard to do if you dont already know what you are doing.... it isnt a bolt in affair.....

None of the Ford auto's that will bolt up to the 4.0. are any good. That's the weak link in Explorers. The trannies suck and Ford totally sucks for using them. I have rebuilt 2 and have no faith in the 3rd. I have another 10k on my warranty and after that I don't know. I wanted another Explorer but It's hard to justify with this piss poor trans. I was thinking V8 and swap to 4x4, but that's a PITA. These trannies are garbage, and there's very little you can do about it.

Theoretically, you could swap in a 5R55E for a 4R55E, but you would also need to swap the PCM (computer) to make it shift right because the PCM controls shift timing and other trans functions. I don't think that you would gain enough to make this swap worthwhile.

Using an A4LD instead of the 4R55E would be a bad idea, because the 4R55E is an improved transmission compared to the A4LD. Also, you may have PCM issues because the 4R55E is controlled by the PCM.

Well Guys, There is a God, and I guess he thought it was time someone gave me a break, I have a friend who found (owns salvage yard) found me a brand new tranny the exact one I need for,Get this $200 and it still has a warranty......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can you believe????And (it gets better) He's only gonna charge me another $200 to put it in!!!Yeah!!!!!I was convinced I was gonna be out $2000 for one, which I don't have and don't know where I'd get since capital gains screwed me big on taxes this year...Good Karma for me...Yeah!!!I'm a little excited still, sorry. Anyways thanks to all of you whom replied and helped me with my exploder problems, not to worry though, I'm sure i'll be back with more ???? as soon as the new one is in,because one thing I've learned with explorers as soon as one thing is fixed 5 more break!!!!!!Thanks again...See ya

With a spare tranny

You now have the opportunity of rebuilding it without any time pressure. They are easy and cheap. Then you can sell it for $500 and make money on the whole deal. So what was the problem with the first one?

ok..Sad day for me. My mom always said if it sounds to good to be true it probably is, well turns out my $200 tranny is for a v8 and i of course have the v6..Bummer deal.

what to look for

I dont have the luxury of the new tranny or a friend at the salvage yard, however I am in need of advice. Opera house it appears you know the a4ld tranny well. I seen many threads about rebuilding it. My question is right before my tranny went out it seemed to only slip between 3rd, 4th, and/or O/D. When I get this sucker apart what damage should I look for. I am waiting on my tranny manual but I am getting anxious. Should I buy the entire rebuild kit. Oh yeah, when it went out I would turn the truck off ,restart, and drive another 2 miles......repeatedly about 5 times to get the truck home so I wouldnt have to pay towing. During this process it sounded like a jet plane. I know I blew the front seal from the oil and smoke from underneath. I also keep blowing the EEC 30 amp fuse only after this mess. Could that be linked to the TCC wire. Any help is greatly appreciated
