A while back I replaced my tranny in my '98 SOHC with one from a '97 OHV, both 5R55E. Everything swapped without a hitch and no extra sensors or missing sensors. After driving the truck for a while my O/D light starts flashing. I've gotten the code read (don't remember number) it's the torq converter shutting down. I reset code and it will be fine for a while and randomly come back. I've swapped all the original sensors from the SOHC thinking maybe the OHV used a different sensor but I'm still getting same code. I read one time about about the '97 and '98 using a different sensor but after hours of searching I cannot find anything that will help.

I'm at a loss of what to do now, does anybody know if it is a straight swap or do I have to convert something to make a OHV work in a SOHC? Or do I have a different problem all together?

I have read several times that on the 97, the VSS sensor is mounted at the Transfer Case (verified on my 97) while on the 98+ they changed the VSS to conbine the function with the ABS sensor on the Rear Differential. The signal sent to the PCM is different between 97 and 98+, IIRC.

Is your VSS sensor on the TC? Or on the rear diff?

If you are using the 98 VSS and the 98 PCM, then you should be ok, as far as I know. Must be a different issue with the TCC.

Can you get the actual code number so I can look it up?
