Swapping a non 5.4v8 into a current V6 02 Eddie Bauer

What other V8's are able to go into an 02 explorer Eddie Bauer edition? Would a transmission swap need to also happen? Wondering about a 3.5 Ecoboost or a 5.0. also approximate cost and any suggestions are welcome.

4.6 4.6 4.6 that is an easy ish swap. since it was offered the same year. since to retain the trans, it can only be the 4.6 beyond that the only limiting factor is money someone has done a 7.3 PS in these

Didn't a Godzilla end up in one too? A 5.0 coyote could be swapped in, the 4.6 with a set of tfs heads would still be the cheapest.

not sure im pretty sure its in the works? i ememebr someone talking about it im thinking 4pointslow was takking about it or that sandbox guy but i dont think its been done yet afaik

First depends if you are already v8 or not. If you don't have 10k laying around then new 7.3, any ecoboost or 5.0 isn't in your budget. Even a 5.4 swap would "bolt in" but matching flexplate to the ****ty 5r55 trans will be fun and unreliable. Best bet is to mod the 4.6 if that is what you have. If you have a 4.0 then your better of buying something else to mod.

When swapping engines from one type to another the least expensive and least frustrating path is to buy the model that came with a V8 from the factory. I would recommend selling yours and buying a 2006-2010 4.6L 3V V8 model. Preferably a 2009-2010 model year if you can find one. This way you end up with 50+ more horsepower, more torque, better gas mileage and a 6R60 or 6R80 six speed transmission that is vastly more reliably than the 5R55 in your 2002.

Still would have to tune the trans out the pcm. Lots of time, money and effort for minimal gain. Better off swapping 1st gen coyote at that point with 6r80......

The 2v could use the coyote pcm to run the engine and trans. The 99-04 mustang guys figured out what wiring changes need to be done to make it work. Still easier to get a 06-10 explorer.
