Hey, I have a 1998 xlt, with the 4 liter v6 ohv. It's not giving me the power I'd like out of it, so I've decided to swap out my v6 for the 5.0 liter v8 that comes stock in some explorers. I have a few questions though and I was hoping you guys could help me. I need to know where the best place to find a used v8 engine out of an explorer, that will fit mine. I don't know if it has to be the same year, or even same make. And I would also like to know if swapping engines would mean my Gibson Catback exhaust system would be no good, since it is made for the v6. Thanks

This as most other things has been covered so searching will bring up results. Look for a rolled explorer or mountineer and just buy the whole truck so you have all wiring and whatnot handy. It's not a simple project, takes some tools, know how, and time. Your gibson would probably still work from the cats back but I think you'll want to goto a larger pipe OD.
