I wondered if there were any sway bar quick disconnects, that anyone had heard of, (similar to the Jeep ones)? After reading a recent thread, I am wondering if these may be an easier thing for my Sport Trac. Thanks, Becker.

none are actually purchasable for us, but several people here have made their own very inexpensivly and easily....

clevis pins
less than 10 bucks total
removes both sides in less then 1 minute

Ed is right as far as 91-94 models, but 95+ models are differant.
I have some JKS (Jeep) disconnects in the front and don't like them. I'm working on something else. For the rear I have bushing inserts and cut the stock links, then drilled holes and put lock pins in them This works great. The only problem is trying to find bushing insert stock that is the same inner diameter as the OD on the links. Ended up grinding down the links a bit. Just make sure that you drill the correctly and straight, other wise you'll have to mark them for the side you put them on.

Yea im interested in getting good disconnects for the front and rear. I think this would increase the trail performance on my stocker aka stucker. My problem always seems to be no traction usually from wheels in the air. I know this might increase some rubbing but oh well. Let me know.......

Thank You Ray and Ed, I appreciate the inputs, I only wish my skills/mechanical ability matched my desire to tinker with (potentially) expensive components. We'll see; maybe I can buddy up with someone down the line and I can trade a favor for a favor... thanks, Becker.

I need to lengthen the link pins on my 92' sway bar. I figured I would cut them in the center of the rod and find some thick tubing with a ID that fits snug over the original link. Cut the tubing to the total length of the link that I want and slide the two halves into the tubing and weld them. Then I'm going to cut that lengthend link in half and weld an insert made of round solid stock in one half that sticks out about 1". Drill a hole in it and use it as the male end of the disconnect. Then drill holes in the female end and find a high strength pin to secure them together. What do you guys think of this? I'm probably going to do this this weekend, time permitting, so I'll let you guys know how it worked. I hope my explination made sense.

sounds like it might work...
remember take lots of pics
good luck

95+

Does anyone know the nominal diameter of the bolt on the stock tube post? I was thinking of trying to put a knurled steel knob with a bushing. Then just unscrew it and pop the bar off the post.

I know these pics are a lifted rig but it should be the same right? Only thing is the post sort of dangles....

Anyone have any more info?

I was wondering if SIRHK100 completed his quick disconnect theory. If anyone else has some good ideas for people without a welder on how to make some quick disconnects for the front and rear sway bars.

Thanks

Well actually no I haven't. I did make the lengthened link pins but the metal yard that I went to get the material didn't have any solid stock in the diameter that I needed. They had some 10' sections and wouldn't cut it for me so I didn't want to buy the whole piece for monetary reasons and my father already thinks I have too much scrap laying around as is. Next time I'm down there I'll take my little piece of tubing I used to extend them and see what I can find. I do kinda like the idea of just using clevis pins instead of bolts though. It seems like it would work.
