- 2015 Explorer Limited
Hi,
I recently purchased a 2015 Explorer Limited and am trying to install an accessory that requires 12V power. I would like to hardwire it in, and need to find a switched circuit somewhere near the center console or driver side dash to wire this in. It'll need to be good for about 1A of draw, plus whatever the original circuit might have pulled.
My old cars all had fuse boxes inside that I tapped into, but for the life of me I cannot find anything like this in the Explorer and the fuses all seem to be in the engine bay. I looked under the driver side dash and found the trailer brake controller harness, but I do not believe there are switched wires on that. All the other easily accessible wires seemed to be in big bundles and weren't clearly power, however I admit I haven't poked around with a mutimeter just yet. I could run a wire through the firewall, but it looks tight and I'd like to go with an easier option if possible since that is a pretty big pain and I don't want to run a huge amount of wire if I can avoid it.
The second thought that comes to mind is the 12v aux port in the center console. I've not spent massive amounts of time trying to get to it, but did manage to figure out how to remove the driver side panel of the center console. The 12v aux wires were not accessible, and much further digging would be required to get at them.
Is there a good place to get 12v switched power from this area easily? If not, is there a diagram or instructions on how to get the center console apart? I've done a brief search and was unable to find any information other than people wiring into the aux port.
Thanks in advance.
