I recently put an electric fan in my '92. It runs off of an adjustable temperature sensor, and I love it. But, I was unable to find a good positive wire to tap into that is ignition switched, so depending on the coolant temp, the fan will continue to run after the truck is off. I don't think my battery needs the extra work, lol. Does anyone know a switched power source near the battery?

I used the radio fuse

I'll probably use that for the over ride switch once I put it in, but I need to find something near the battery for the fan motor itself...

What brand of fan do you have?

It's a Flex-a-Lite 116 Trimline (the only one I could find that fit in there). I also bought an A/C relay, an override switch, and an adjustable temp control. The temp control is the only thing I have hooked up right now, and I have it wired straight to the battery.

You need to be careful when doing that.

If you wire it to the wrong thing...you can damage things. After you turn the truck off, and the fan still spins, it acts as an alternator/generator. It will backfeed electricity into whatever its hooked up to.

Huh?

the main fusse box under the hood is an excellent place to get 12V switched power.
I ran a wire from this box into my interior just for the purpose of handling all my accessories, I cannot leave anything on when the key is out except for my CB.

Maybe on the 1st gens, is no switched power in the relay box on the 3rds, under the hood
