I have a 2014 Ford Explorer PIU

earlier this year I installed a sync 2 setup as you know the PIU was never meant to have that set up, after buying a pricey harness everything works within reason ( I don’t have heated seats or anything like that)

I tried installing a sync 3 setup and I’m having a few issues such as

  1. Clock shows --:-- despite the time being correct in the settings.
  2. None of the preset station buttons work to change the radio. I can long press them to reprogram the buttons to the current station, but a short press doesn't change the station
  3. My climate section isn't working. The temps are not listed and the heated seats do not work. On the home screen, the heated seats are grayed out. I have no controls over the rear climate.
  4. The voice button/switch on my steering wheel does not work after the switch. The fourth one doesn’t matter I just need the first three taken care of. I have forscan but I’m not having any luck. Does anyone have an apim setup to alleviate this problem. I read in a previous thread that a gentleman Jason from Fordpimods was able to help with an issue like this for a small fee does anybody know how to get a hold of this guy I will gladly pay it. I’m new here so I’m not sure where the posts so this is the best place I can think of if anybody else can point me in the right direction I’d be much appreciated.

Did you ever get these resolved?

Having similar issues in my 2014 Ford Focus after doing the Sync 2 to 3 upgrade. Any help is appreciated.

Peter,

Thanks for the reply. I know it is an eternity ago but I am still hopeful someone will reply with some insight. I just did the upgrade in my vehicle (while not an explorer) and have similar issues. Despite setting the time manually, it never seems to advance. Set it for 12:01 and 20 mins later still reads the same time. I suppose it's a forscan related issue because some changes were made to reprogram the APIM to the new vehicle and get the climate controls to show up. I honestly didn't check if the issue existed after the fresh install but will continue to play with it until I can resolve the issue or hopefully someone knows and can chime in with a quick programming fix.

Sounds like a Forscan issue to me. When I did my sync 1-3 swap on my F350 it involved me saving my APIM and CCM from sync 1, loading it into the new APIM, and then manually adding in the additional features that I wanted. Either way be sure to save every version of each APIM, so save your new APIM asbuilt before editing anything, and same with your SYNC 2 APIM. That way you always have something to default back to. You can also try doing the load factory asbuilt which should default to your VIN's factory APIM settings, which will not be perfectly congruent, but may fix the issues.

Thanks for the reply.

It was definitely a Forscan issue. I managed to fix the issue by loading the as-built data from a newer car that came with Sync 3 as a template then hand-jammed a few lines that I suspected were causing my issues. I snagged those lines from another similar vehicle then added in the necessary adjustments I needed to customize my APIM for my preferred set up like enabling climate controls, navigation, and disabling Sirius. Even got my steering wheel controls working.

Now just need to figure out if I'll be able to add in a telematics unit for FordPass capability. It's a project but definitely a great learning experience.

Curious, how does your climate control buttons react to your PIU HVAC system with a DUAL and auto interface? I am aware the blend air components are not compatible, but curious if the buttons do anything now.

I am currently bidding on a wrecked 2016 Sport Explorer that will come with all the bells and whistles to swap into my newest PIU. Debating swapping the radio to Sync 2 from Sync 1.

Being up front, my vehicle is a 2014 Ford Focus Titanium.

That being said, my controls function as normal (both manual controls and digital display). When I initially enabled them on the APIM, the display didn't function as expected. It took some manipulating by reviewing other as-built data and a few guides that decode as-built data rom other ford models to get it working precisely as I needed.
