Ive been hearing alot about Amsoils products and ive been doing alot of research about motor oils, i have a 2001 4 door 4 wheel drive xlt with the 4.0 sohc with 51,000 miles on it i just got it a few months ago but im not sure whether i should switch over to a full-synthetic motor oil like Amsoil or Mobil1 or a A mixture Like Valvoline Durablend?? Any suggestions, i dont really know the history of the truck but i will be doing a coolant flush, transmission flush ,filter, gasket fluid also should the new tranny fluid should it also be a full synthetic? or just a regular mercon 5? I also found out that Fram Oil Filters arnt all they are said to be, they have a cardboard endcap opposed to most other filters who have a metal one, i was looking into amsoil oil filters or maybe you guys have another suggestion??

Run whatever oil you want. Most will say that the full synthetic will do a better job.

I just did a tranny flush and used some Castrol Mercon V. It was about $3.69 at the auto store. I also added a quart of Lucas transmission treatment.

You are right about the Fram filters, junk.

Wix makes a great filter or you can get up into some of the premium filters, amsoil, mobile 1, k&n.

fram is better than some of the other junl still in the store.
go to pep boys or autozone mobile1 or K&N are $8.99....
and go to wal mart and buy the 5qt's of moby1 oil...and they you have a container to trash the old oil in also...

i use that and change every 6 months...

I run all Amsoil full-synthetic in everything. Only advantage I see to a blend is that it is cheaper. You get some of the advantages of synthetic, with the lower cost. However, you also are pretty much stuck with short change intervals, and usually have no idea howe much synthetic is really in a blend.

aldive did a post on it, and it says a blend is basically crap... well not crap, but barely better than dino, because to be classified a blend, its properties jsut have to have a little bit of synthetic in it.... its a good marketing gimmick.....

either go full synthetic, or stay with dino

Yep. I've heard various rumors, but safe to say there is very little synthetic in most, if not all, blends, and they don't have to (nor do they) report how much is in there.

I run Mobil 1 in my vehicles and it shows almost no wear when torn down and clean as could be in side the motors. Also the tests :exp: I have seen show that Fram is crap but Motorcraft and AC Delco rated the best for fliters. I did notice running the K&N that there was a little more oil pressure but it could be that it is just letting more unfliterd oil threw. But just a guess on that one.
