i just got my explorer a couple weeks ago. i took it out to some sand trails. when i was out there i popped a tire and had to replace the 2 rear tires. one guy told me that if i replaced the 2 rear tires but left the 2 worn tires on the front on the truck and went off roading again i was for sure going to destroy my transfer case. another guy told me that as long as im on a slick surface i should have no problem and the tires will just slip. do u think i risk damaging it if i take it off roading or take it on the beach?

one thing to consider is that when they put the new tires on the rear they put a different brand on it. i didnt realize they were going to do that.

if they are all the same size, you'll be fine, if not, then thats bad

You'll be fine as long as they are the same size.. Just remember not to wheel by yourself.. Always have another rig, and use tow straps without hooks.. no chains please.. If your truck doesn't have a front tow point consider installing one.

haha theyre definatly the same size

another question... whats the general longevity of the transfer case? right now the truck has about 78000 miles on it but the owner before only used the 4wd once in the snow. its all stock and when i take it off roading i go easy on it and never go fast like some rednecks do who dont car about their truck...
