Just out of curiousity..
I took my 97 5.0 AWD Sploder in to get some stuff worked on, under warranty.
Anyway, they rebuilt the t-case.. what exactly they did, I do not know. Except that they had my truck for 12 days, heh..

Anyway.. since I got my truck back, my MPG has JUMPED.
I was averaging 12-13mpg, mixed highway and city.
Well after this last tank of gas, and the first FULL TANK since I got it back, I got a whopping 16mpg. My driving habits have not changed at ALL. I still floor it every now and then.

So basically, the only thing I can think is something they did with the t-case caused this.
What would? It had a weird high pitched whining noise coming from it.. that's what they fixed.

What, though, from the t-case could cause that 3-4mpg increase?

well, being a awd.. and thinking about radio control cars and the whine you say it had... i think that you had some parasitic drag from some component thus robbing power?

thats cool that it helped mileage :)

maybe they added thinner oil to it also reducing drag on components?

I was also guessing that it had something to do with binding occuring in the t-case, causing the whining.

But like I said.. I got no clue what all was replaced. I could prolly find the SSM that's got that info in it. Was just curious as to what all could cause it.

But I'm definately stoked. Being able to get 281.4 miles oin 17 gallons of gas is NICE compared to the usual 200 miles on 16 gallons :D

you gained an extra gallon capacity in the gas tank by them fixing hte tcase? awesome ;) j/k its late, and i am tired and sick :(

hehe
usually when I filled up, I got around 16 gallons in my tank.
When I filled up yesterday, I got 17 into the tank (it's a 22 gallon tank btw  )
I love having good gas milage now! Hopefully it'll stay that way through my drive down to Colorado (from Alaska), pulling a trailer with my B2

i always thought it was 20.5 but i could be wrong

the 4-door is 22 gallons, the 2-door Ex is slightly smaller, could be 20 or 20.5
