T-Stat didn't work

I changed the T-Stat in the X today. Got everything put in, and changed the coolant while I was at it. No luck, temp gauge still stays at Cold. The upper radiator hose gets warm, but not super hot. There is also plenty of heat coming out of the vents.

What else can I try?

Well, if your getting good heat, then I would look at first the temp. sending unit and then possibly the gage itself. Does gage move at all?

Yeah, the gauge moves. I took it out driving and it goes up about half way between the middle and cold without the heat on. When I turn the heat on it goes back down to the "C". But everything does move.

Temp sensor maybe?

Probably not the sender. When they fail you will usually find your gauge pegged either all the way cold or hot.. It won't usually react to changing temperatures. Your symptoms still look like a bad thermostat. I would double check that the one you put in is the correct one, is working properly and is installed correctly. Several people here have reported buying bad thermostats even though they were new.

What temp. t-stat did you replace it with?

Replaced with 192/195 degree T-Stat.

Well that is the right temp. range that the X calls for, and the range I put in mine. What brand did you use? Surely you did not put in a MotorCrap one, if you did, that is the root of all the evil! MotorCraft makes HORRIBLE thermostats.

I used a NAPA one, but I have heard good things about Stant as well. In fact, I have a Stant locking gas cap.

I agree with the others posts, if you are still having problems, you possibly got a bad thermostat right out of the box. It happens! Try a NAPA or Stant, and you should be ok.

I used a Stant SuperStat.

This is getting to be PITA, today my check engine light came on with a P0153 code. "O2 Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 Slow Response" Wonderful, now it looks like I need to replace that also.

Maybe your truck is possessed by a poltergeist, it is close to Holloween you know.

Seriously though, I still think that you got a bad thermostat, not sure what a "Super Stat" is, but try using the plain old regular one.

As far as your 02 malfunction, that could be a number of things to a sensor starting to going bad, to a hiccup in the system, to bad gas. See if the light goes out after driving for a couple of days.
