Check out the link below. Maybe some hope for our weak Mazda 5 speeds.

sounds really great but thats a manual tranny isnt it.....that would be an expensive mod for the automatics. I still think i will put it on my wish list..LOL

T-5 tranny

I already have put the t-5 World Class in my explorer and it is the best thing I have done yet. It is super bombproof as I have had 3 of the cheesy Mazdas under warranty sort of. Advance Adaptors has all the parts and you can use a Ford hydraulic slave cylinder/ throw out bearing. I also converted the problematic electric transfer case to a manual, also an excellent upgrade. The whole thing was less or about the same as having the Mazda rebuilt again. Also for auto conversions you would just need a flywheel to replace the flexplate.

eh? I thought advanced adapters didn't have a conversion for the t-5 to 4.0/v6.

But, I like the idea of the T5 to a different transfer case.. Now I can do the klune-v to an atlas2, and get really deep and slow gearing!

t-5 tranny

The 4.0 bolts up to a standard Ford bellhousing used for there Bronco II conversions. I f you want a parts list and the few mods you need to make just email me and I'll send them to you.

Parts List

Brian,

I would like to know the parts list. Do you mind posting it on this thread.

Thanks,

I'd like to know too. Posting it here will help everyone.

Also, are you still running a B&W135x transfer case, or have you changed it out too?

T-5 parts list

I'll get my list together so I can be accurate. But this should be pretty complete.

T-5 World Class Transmission #26-0002
Bearing retainer to fit Hydraulic throwout bearing (included)
Ford new bell housing #E8TZ7505A
Bellhousing adaptor plate #712542
Ford hydraulic throw out bearing #FITZ7564A
New pilot bushing (Included)
Special Centerforce clutch disc #FMD002
Centerforce standard replacement pressure plate for Explorer
Transfer case adaptor to BW1354 with spud shaft #50-1803

I made adaptor for manual linkage to bolt to Advance Adaptors adaptor from aluminum and anodized it. Also special stainless steel mounting bolts for linkage, i.e. large bolt had to have head milled flush and be tapped for small 2nd bolt that held linkage mounting plate.(Compliments of NASA friend engineer machinist)

I will have autocad file for cnc milling shortly and will be selling it to Advance Adaptors hopefully. I can also get my buddy to make them for a reasonable price and his work is flawless.

You will need to remount crossbrace but, that just involves drilling new holes in frame rails.

Stick will also be about 4" further to back of vehicle so you will need to fabricate new sheet metal cover plate. This is relatively easy if you use the old one as shape template and just cut different holes for stick and cover in self adhesive foam and sheet rubber for internal boots.

If you have manual transfer case or add it Ford Double boot and plastic base plate will work with a little trimming.

Also check location of starter as the side it is mounted on can vary and may require a different bellhousing.

Hope all this helps. If you have other questions just post here or email me with the specific ones.

Hmm this does sound intresting. But is this tranny really as good as everyone says? Does anyone know the gear ratios? Tom you and I seem to be on the same track here and you may have researched that out further then me but the klune will bolt up to the T5? Does this tranny change the length of the driveshafts any? This would be a nice addition to my Explorer. Specially since I think I am gonna grenade my tranny one of these days. :D

Klune & T-5

My install did not involve any driveshaft length changes the overall length of the T-5 with adapter is within a 1/4" of the stock setup if you use the stock transfer case. I don't know what else Advance Adapters has to bolt it to other transfer cases but, you can call and talk to Scott. He was very helpful when I set mine up.

Also gear ratios seem close to stock although 1st & 2nd seem a bit lower.

The klune will not bolt up directly to the T5. It will need adapters for both end.

I'm seriously considering trying to stuff a full size 4x4 transmission and transfer case in there. Then, you can replace the transmission output housing with a klune (direct bolt in), and be done with it.

Yes, I've been talking to the Klune engineers (http://www.klune.com/v) about this, and they are somewhat interested. They want somebody else to do most of the leg work. It appears have a solution with the mazda (you replace the transmission housing, cut down the output shaft, make adapter plates, and build a spud output shaft), and you can do it all with out mucking too much with the transfer case (there isn't much room either to move the transfer case back).

So, I'm out to get: (I think I got the xfer and 1st wrong)

Klune Xfer 1st Rear
4.1 1 3.4 4.56 63.38 (4lowlow)
4.1 2.7 3.4 4.56 171.12 (4ultralow)
1 2.7 3.4 4.56 41.49 (4low)
1 1 3.4 4.56 15.50 (4high)

Looks like I'll just keep looking.

Can this T-5 adapter work with the stock transfer case for the 95' and up explorers? If so where can you get the adapter and bellhousing, does Advanved Adapters have it or what? I really want to get rid of my Mazda 5-speed and pick up that T5, but as of yet I don't know of any aftermarket transfer cases that will work with my 96'. The Atlas II will only work with the 91-94.

Later,

Drew

Nevermind

I talked with Advanced Adapters and they tould me the T5 will work with the stock transfer case (with a transfer case adapter kit) and the Atlas II with work will my 96' sport.

Later,

Drew
