tach reading 2k above normal for no reason

My engine will just be idling and it will jump up above 3k for no apparent reason. Engine sounds fine so i think their may be a loose connection or something but i just dont know. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Does the engine itself rev? or is it just the Tach jumping? You weren't very clear....
 






Sorry, the engine is not revving at all, just the tach will jump up 2k randomly.
 






Probably the device that sends info to the gauge gone whacko. Not sure what or how it works however. I think there was a post recently about Tach not working that may have discussed the mechanics of how it works. Try searching for it....
 






I think Tom is referring to the Ignition Module that is located underneath the battery. That's where the tach gets its signal. You might try spraying some WD-40 into the connector to the module......
