Tailgate won't latch

So my tailgate wouldn't open, and I've been using the lever inside the gate to open it. Last night, I opened the gate, and now it won't shut. Everything looks fine, but the teeth on the sides that latch around the bar won't close, so it won't latch closed. Ugh.

Nevermind, I took the panel off and found the problem. The lock mechanism slipped off where the bars go. All is well, now but I did break one of the plastic latches getting the back panel back on.
