Anyone from CA running with no Cats or hollowed out Cats? I was wondering if i will be able to pass emmissions without them. My 4 banger ranger passed with a hollowed Cat but i want to make sure the 4.0 will pass before i start cutting everything up. if not, where can i find an inexpensive hi-flo?

Why do you want to get rid of them? They don't have any performance advantages (atleast no one has said they have).

Hollowed cats have a negative effect. You think its gaining power because you believe it is. In actuality you are losing some due to the turbulence you have created in the exhaust. Turbulence is no good. If you are dead set on changine out your cats get a highflow

Ditto!

Besides, is it worth the $2500(minimum) fine if you get caught?

Yup. Although it is a health and long-term air safety issue, those who attempt this process run a straight pipe through the converter after breaking up the "brick" inside, or split the two halves and then reweld the shells onto a straight pipe- thus eliminating the turbulence.

Please do the right thing and, if you feel it is necessary to change the stock set-up, simply purchase high flow converters and avoid the ethical and legal consequences.

Thanks for the info, though i don't understand the concern for air quality. If it is only a weekend warrior and not a daily driver i'm not too worried about pollution. Hell, my F-250 diesel and 68 ranchero 390 are catless from the factory and i'm sure they pollute 10x as much as a catless 4.0. plus when i do the 5.0 and sas conversion it will become an OHV registered trailer rig and there is no way i'm running cats on it then. For now i guess i'll weld up the leaks, if getting rid or upgrading them won't improve performance or economy.
