I was curious if anyone has tried to add a new head unit in addition to the factory unit. I thought it would be cool to have a hidden head unit in the center console. That way my explorer would still look factory, any thougts?

So would the factory head unit be a 'dumby' unit that doesn't work? If so, you could just tap into the power/remote/ground lines off the factory head unit to use with your aftermarket head unit. If you wanted to make them both work with your stereo, that would be a problem if you want to use the factory amplifier with the factory head unit and the aftermarket head unit with it's amplifier. What kind of factory audio system do you have?

Ok, I dont have the premium audio system, no factory sub. But I do have the factory Cd-Changer. I would want the factory Head unit to remain functional. Do you know if my explorer has an external amp? Thanks
