2002 Explorer Sport Trac
I have an 02 Sport-Trac 2wd, 6" Camburg lift,4.10 gear, 285/75/16 Tire.
4.0sohc motor, 70k miles, headers & larger single exhaust throughout. K/N CAI. I have a 1" or 1.5" tb spacer for it. It has not been installed.
In truth, this rig should have a 4.56 gear. But Im stuck with the 4.10's for now.
I seeking more bottom end and mid range. A gear change is not a possibility at the moment.
QUESTIONS;
My type of vehicle use is fast off road desert trails and a daily driver.
1-What advantages will this TB spacer offer?
2-Better low end?
3-Better High end?
4-Better Mid-Range?
5-None of the above?
What disadvantages will this TB Spacer give.
Thanks for the help

None of the above

Purchase and installation of a throttle body spacer on your SOHC V6 is a waste of money and time. It will result in no measurable performance improvements of any kind unless you have excess slack in your throttle cable that prevents the throttle plate from opening all the way when the accelerator is "floored". A tapered throttle body spacer is warranted if you install a larger than stock throttle body and need a transition from a larger to smaller bore.

I made one from my wife's old kitchen cutting board to transition my 75mm racing throttle body outlet to the stock intake manifold inlet.

It will go WOT with this spacer for sure.

Mine goes WOT without a spacer. Just pulled out the slack.

And gained 50hp.

Good one Hugh, and I know you're NOT serious. Anyone that believes in HP gains from the throttle cable mod wasn't getting wide open throttle to begin with. The throttle cable spring is there to prevent the cable from breaking. Adding
tie wraps or spacers does nothing but stress the cable if you're already hitting WOT. Cables have broken from this "mod".

I'd say the gain could be as high as 65hp. Just kidding. Seriously though, after doing the zip tie mod to pull slack out of the throttle cable, response is much better. I really see the difference when going up hills around 60 mph. With the slack I would've had to downshift, but with the slack removed I did not have to. I will say the gain is absolutely minimal and now I wouldn't be able to say there's a difference. It was really only for a few days after doing the mod and then I got used to it.
