The temp guage on my 92 XLT doesn't move past the C, it has been flaky since I bought the truck, moved back and forth and never seemed to work right, lately I haven't even seen it move. Heat works fine and the temp sensor was replaced about a year and a half ago when I bought it. I haven't noticed any problems, but it sure makes me nervous... any ideas?

Also am planning to replace the fuel filter and PCV soon (preventive maintenance) are these easy straight-forward procedures or is there something to watch out for?

Thanks for any replies...

Mary,

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. Mine did the same thing until I replaced it. Sure helped the fuel mileage too. Replacing the PCV is very easy. Just pull the old one out and put the new one in. The fuel filter may be a little more involved. My '95 requires a special "wrench" to remove the clips that hold it in place. I don't know if yours is the same. Good luck!

MAN! Ill tell you what! That fuel filter is a pain! I went and bought that specual wrench but it wouldnt fit right, didnt have enought clearance or something... I ended up having to cut that filter outta there. Took me a few hours just to do a filter change.. yeesh.

Changing the fuel filter is fairly straightforward, but really kind of a pain. Be sure to relieve the pressure in the fuel line before removing the filter. If not, you will get a gasoline bath!!

There is a little plastic "tool" required to release the filter from the fuel line. Mine is made by OTC. Most parts stores should have it - if not, Snap On does.

Wrap the tool around the installed filter inlet (or outlet), slide the tool into the fuel line connector, push hard. Hold that, twist and pull the fuel filter out of the fuel line. Be careful, the filter will be full of fuel, ready to spill.

My problem is that I couldnt get the took in the filter. something was in the way and didnt let room for the took. I picked the tool up a pep boys (the only place in town I could find it) and it was supposed to fit my car. Guess not. I was pretty mad because the filter was just something I decided to do because it sounded easy. Of course everything i do to that car turns into an all day project.
