the new 6cyls gona get better mpg

will be with in 2 mpg.

keep us updated

dont just rely on the computer, calculate it yourself with the trip and the gallons burned. Sometimes those computers are off. My dad 03 yukon with the 6.0 says its getting 14 when its getting between 9 and 10

Je I know but we have both tested it before and were both fairly accurate..

No more comments about what the difference will be?? Wether here in Iceland is very good now when competition is at its peak. Yesterday was 12°C or 53°F and to day it looks like it will be the same.

Ok here are the results:

2006 Ford Explorer xlt 4.0 V6 short distance drive 22.3 mil and 8,7 mpg

2004 Ford Explorer ltd 4.6 V8 short distance drive 29,8 mil and 8,6 mpg.

I will setup another race and now highway drive.. coming soon...

Yup, I had two of each variety.....MPG in basically indistinguishable between the four vehicles.

Which IMO isn't a good thing. ...and FWIU the Ford Edge and Escape aren't far off.

That's what makes me a fan of the v8. The engine doesn't work nearly as hard and in real-world driving, the gas mileage is negligible. I think the v6 engines are rated at about 16/20 (city/hwy) and the v8 at 15/19 - or something very close to that. The new v6 for 2011 should change that, but since it's a turbo (I think), I'm not sure how that's going to fair if you have anything to tow. Me - I'm just not a fan of the American v6's. Sad thing is that Ford is not even offering a v8 option for the Ex starting '11.

How is it that SUV's have all become so neutered?

the v6 is not turbo, the 4 cyl in the 11 model is turbo. the smaller engine has more torque and hp then the v6.

Well... For one, women have a huge impact on what vehicles are boughten now a days. Thus why you have also seen the lack of bikini clad woman at car shows. And secondly, most people view the suv as a gas guzzler and shy away from them since gas prices keep jumping. Do i agree with this??? Not fully.
I believe the suv still has it place just as the pickup truck does.

Ok here are the rules for the Highway race: We both drove to next town 20 miles away. We were gona try to be as close to 60 as posseble (no Cruze Control) and we drove to together v8 in front. and both push the reset button and the exactly the same spot when we had reached 60 and when we got ther on exactly same spot we wrote down the result.

Anyone want to predict the result??

Hmm...I'm going to guess the V6 will do better.

thr result:

2004 Ford Explorer ldt 4.6 v8 = 20,6mpg

2006 Ford Explorer xlt 4.0 v6 = 20,3mpg

So over all result after short but hasr race is V8 one and V6 one

Yes, but if you factor in the added utility of a V8 the scale easily tips in it's favor....IMO

I've driven my Explorer on the highway at 58 MPH and have recorded 22 and 23 MPG.

I remember when first searching for my Explorer I found so many 6s and not many 8s, but I refused to get anything but a V8.

Think about it this way, what has a harder time pushing 4000 LBs, 6 people or 8 people.....
