The body style

Since the Explorer been in the market for 12 years since it first produced in 1991.

I'm asking is which Explorer body style and features you like best overall?

1991-1994
1995-2001
2002-Present

Since I have 1993 Limited and it seem to have more leg room than later models. I'm 6'4 and it rides more comfortable than my 1997 Limited. I noticed the leg room shrink a bit. But Im asking members what style and rooms they most like best?

1st gen

I like the 1st gen X's. I like the square look plus the simplicity of the TTB compared to the IFS of later editions. I really hate the looks of the new ones and the IRS. Ford has totaly ruined the Explorer. It is no longer for off roading. It is now just a 4 wheel drive car. The only really bad thing about the 1st gen is the rust on the rocker panel by the rear wheel.

I have to say the later 2nd gen.'s look the best (99-01). I really think that the 1st gen.'s look old and out of place on the road...specially since most of them are tore-up and beat down. Scrap them all...make room for new models!!!!:fire:

yea, i think the first gens are out of phase on the road, and that the second gens may never seem old looking, just my opinion. but that doesnt mean that the 1st gens are better at other things. i am just expressing my opinion on the appearance.

I prefer the 95/96 models. I really dont like the later hatches on second gens. One thing that seems odd is that they stopped putting the pin stripe on the hatch...made it look odd(they should have left them out all together ). I may be biased cause my ex is a 96. I think the 96 body style has maintined it looks. Imagine a 7 year old car not looking outta place. I think time will be very kind to the second gens.

Oh yeah, 01 sports look uber tasty when the body cladding is painted ala BM.

I also like the 01 front.
As a matter of fact, the day before I bought my 00 I test drove an 01. It was beat. The 00 I got was totally babied so I had to have it.

I like the body style of the 2nd Generations over the 1st but 3rd over the 2nd.

hmm, ill try not to be biased....i like the 1st gen because of the square look and simplicity, but it does look old. i really like the 2nd gen over the 1st gen because of the better looks, and the more ability to lower them and the parts available. i absolutly despise the 02 + ex's. IRS sucks major wang D). j mays needs to go back to europe....
