The Ford order/build/deliver timeline.

Congrats on the X Sports. Good looking color, hopefully it does not attract too much dust and dirt and stays cooler in summer.
White doesn't show much dust or light dirt. It stays clean looking, at least from a distance, for a long time. My 2011 Ltd was the same colour while my current MKT is Crystal Champagne which is a little darker than the tri-colour Platinum and also doesn't readily show dust/dirt.

Waiting (sort of) patiently

Ordered my XLT on Dec 19 and was told 6-8 weeks but no VIN yet. Hurry please, I don't want to drive this Dodge Caravan any longer! :D

It is finally here!!!!!

We just came home with my Ingot Silver Limited with the Ebony Black interior, Polished Aluminum Wheels, and the Class III towing package. I love the way the hitch is hidden. It is perfect. The standard equipment had more than enough features for me. Now if I can just figure them all out! I can't wait to see it in the daylight. I am having the front door windows and the visor tinted in the morning. I probably will have to keep getting up and looking out the window tonight just to be sure it is really here.:):):):)

It shouldn't take that long. At least I hope not. They start accepting orders for the 2017 on March 14 with the production scheduled to start on June 6th.

Peter

Just wondering, there's a 2017 model coming already?

Yes. Last order date for a 2016 is March 4th. Orders for the 2017 model will be accepted starting March 14th. I'm guessing with the production starting June 6th that he 2017 models should be arriving at the dealers around the end of July or early August.

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
I don't believe any details have been released but stay tuned as a couple of members will post the Order Sheet as soon as they get it. That will show any changes made. So far there have been 3 colours deleted and 3 new ones added.

I already have my window sticker and the vehicle has been produced. Dealer told me that he does not have ETA. Is there an ETA date displayed on a window sticker? I have a few free plain tickets and I am willing to fly to Chicago plant and pick it up myself and drive it back to NY dealership, 791 miles in about 12 hours. I know it might sound a little bit desperate, but is it even possible.

I don't think anyone can give you an ETA until the vehicle is actually loaded on the railcar because no one really knows when that will occur. You can not pick it up at the factory, even if you lived across the street. The vehicle has to be delivered to the dealer and then it has to undergo the preparation, inspection and delivery process. Only then is the final paperwork completed and ownership is transferred to you.

So I was able to find the Window Sticker online of my 2016 Platinum that I ordered about 3 weeks ago. Once the window sticker is available how long does it usually take for the build?

The Window Sticker has the build date on it in the lower right corner. Takes a little deciphering.

Thanks Peter. I think I figured it out. Looks like build date is 02/09/16 so should be done on Tues! My dealer told me Wed they expect it by the end of the month. That was quicker than I expected as I have my lease until early April on the escape. I'll just have to turn it in early! Have to admit I expected 2 months or more but 6 weeks was a nice surprise.

Welcome to the Forum. :wavey:
Yes, you need the VIN in order to pull up the Window Sticker but as has been mentioned before, that pulling up the 'Sticker' seems to be a hit or miss activity since Ford or someone made changes to the process. The 'Sticker' is usually available 3 - 5 days before the actual build. A partial number won't be of any use. The thread with the links to pull up the ;Sticker' is at the top of the page of this sub forum. Other links are also shown in the Window Sticker URL thread.

Ordered XLT Jan. 20th

We ordered our 2016 XLT Jan. 20th and received our VIN on Feb. 4th. After multiple attempts to pull down the window sticker it appears our XLT build date is Feb. 12th unless that date moves. It appears we are on track to have our Explorer within the 6/8 weeks per the dealer.

Good to hear everything seems to be on track. Please add XLT to your profile so it shows in the margin. All it shows now is 2016. That info could help when members reply to future posts.

Nick, depending on how far along the order is you can make changes to it. Have your dealer request the change and I'm sure he will be advised if it can still be done. Others have done it.

Has anyone heard of any across the board stop ships on new 2016 Explorer orders? I ordered my XLT at the end of November. Got the VIN, have seen my window sitcker. Had an original ETA of 1/4. on 1/9 it arrived in Buffalo and within 3 hours had a transit delay put on it. It took me almost one month to get any concrete reason why. Ford rep apparently says the factory ordered it. No idea on how long it is gonna sit there or why it was stopped.

I'm not aware of any "Stop Shipment" directives since no one has posted that info in any of our sub-forums. There are members here that have received their Explorers within the last week or so. It is possible that there was an issue that was found and fixed after yours was built. Depending on and if there is an issue with yours the only thing I can see is that it will either be returned to the factory or continue on to your dealer to have them correct whatever the issue is, if they can that is. In 2011, there were Explorers ready to be shipped and loaded onto rail cars when they were all returned to the factory because of an issue with the seats. Have you checked with your dealer?
