Dogfriend.... the maturation of the internet and electronic photography has revolutionized things. This board CAN do sooo much to increase our collective knowledge. Pics and WOW, realtime movies are worth a thousand and a MILLION words. For others, understand such a post takes a LOT of time to produce. A few paragraphs can take minutes, photos and videos hours. I'm pretty sure the opening is there to vent the pressure behind the piston that moves back and forth to regulate the bypass air. The tube doesn't feel like it is blowing or sucking air to any noticeable degree. But if you close off the tube with your finger (lightly so there is a small opening) it will start to hum.

Any music students out there? The pitch is probably equal to the frequency of the signal sent by the PCM to control the IAC. It uses a PWM signal to move the piston back and forth.

Yomie can explain about the PWM.

Actually, it wasn't too bad, probably about an hour of editing it down to the movie I finally uploaded.

This is the kind of thing that is hard to describe in words, so it is perfect for a short movie.

I think that a movie showing how to recharge the A/C system would be excellent, maybe we can work that out one of these days.

Yep, on me. And I'm open to anything that helps anyone do something on their Ex themselves. I have grandiose plans for a DVD video on an A4LD rebuild... But we can start with a recharge of AC or use of scanners and code readers or whatver people want on here. I suspect the hardcore geeks amongst us are few, and milder DIY projects would be more appreciated by more people. Still, the geekier, more complex things fascinate me.

ps. sorry should probably have emailed this, less on topic. I would like to know what people would like to see on here though. As I have thought of things I think of threads to help share knowledge. At the moment am thinking on one showing the merits of Leakdown testers vs. compression testers. and plan to do a vid on painting the EX too.

I just go out side With my sony record it Plug in into the computer download it , Then Maybe edit it a little in Pinnacle, and walla! Copy to dvd/cd/internet/e-mail.
I could whip it out in 20 mins. tops! No offence dogfriend. and you we're missing something? Wheres Bubba Rub? and did we ever find how to fix this dam thing! Mine is really annoying. My fix is turn up the radio!

I apologize for my rudeness, but I mean when someone breaks the video barrier on a free site like this, to criticize that effort make me see red. My point was, and is, those efforts are extraordinary and worthy. There are about 50 people on here giving 99% of the help to thousands. I'd think kudos would be more in order than criticism.

To fix the problem, take off the black vent cover, pull out the piece inside. You will find two felt like filters inside. Clean the filters so the air can move thru them easily. Put everything back together and snap the black cover back on the IAC.

Alternatively, you can buy another IAC valve to get a pristine vent filter

Wow, the Explorer is never like that. However, the Taurus makes a very high pitching sound as it accelerates. Sounds like a ghost howling. I guess it's time to clean our its IAC as well.
