The OFFICIAL H2/H3 hatred/loving whining/praising thread...

Why don't we all just sit back, drink a beer, and be glad that we live in the good 'ole USA where gas is cheap enough where we can afford to drive any vehicle we want.

I'm visiting my sister in Swizterland right now and I have seen 2 Explorers. The cars here make the Toyota Camry look HUGE. Anybody ever seen a Renault Twingo? I see 20 a day b/c gas here is $4/gal. My sister is looking at buying a tiny VW b/c it gets 40 mpg and they can't afford anything bigger.

:chug: :chug:

I'm just giving my personal opinion of the Hummers. Neither fits my needs for an on or off-road vehicle. I would be much more inclined to purchase a Jeep Rubicon for a factory built offroader. It may not have the bling bling factor or the Cadillac like ride, but it will fit on the trails I run which is a big factor in how I look at the vehicles.

On a personal note I agree, but I'm not gonna put somebody down for using a hummer. The similarities between the H2 and explorer are kinda shocking. Neither is very off-road capable stock, they both use too much gas(according to the tree huggers) and they're both over-priced(the H-2 much more so)

:chug: :chug:

Hummers dont have a Cadillac ride either ;)

Personally I've always figured the H1 (I have driven one, but not offroad) was fairly useless offroad because it is so wide, it would be incapable of doing a low of, if not most of the trails I've seen you all do in pictures. I think the H2 is a FAR FAR FAR better choice for what people are buying H1s to do, drive down the street and look different.

I drove the H2 and it felt like riding on a sofa:D

You would be very surprised where the H1's can go. No not any really skinny trails and stuff but then again i guess we can just make our own trails. I suppose one of the reasons i like the H1 so much is because i was grown to respect it as a battle tested (not just Irag either)vehicle that can go through alot of stuff and still come out on top. In my eyes the only thing better than a hmmwv is the M113 APC. Now if that thing gets stuck then hell had offcially froze over. lol. Got to love tracked vehicles. :p

I hope you mean in the military and not during regular offroading because "making your own trail" is what is getting our offroad areas shut down across the country. Tread Lightly :D The original Hummer was built with the military in mind. Since that's the case if the trail isn't wide enough they just blow it up until it is:D Can't do that in "real life",:p

Yes that is what i meant. Like blowing up areas so we can get accros and stuff. I am all for forest preservation, becasue if people keep mistreating the woods then soon enough no one will even be allowed in them because it all will be ruined or off limits due to governemtn ruling.

Am I the only only who thinks Rick using the term "Bling Bling" is hilarious?

ROFLMAO... just got off the phone with my friend in Chicago. We were talking about this thead and his H2. He said he signed up for 2 4x4 trips with the local car dealerships and he's all psyched up.

I said he would have to come out West some time so he could do Moab with me since Moab has plenty of wide trails. Well, it was about then I said, "Ron, ya know I could drive out there put your H2 on a trailer and take you back and forth to Moab with my Dodge and it would cost less in fuel than if you drove yourself"! His reply, "yeah tell me about it, I know it probably would cost less" and the sad part is it's just about true!

He does love his Hummer though, but then again doesn't every guy??

Hey in consolation. I love to GET hummers. :D ................... Wheres the GF when i need her!

Sorry..... it is late and i am delerious.

Nope just out of the room. lol

Perfect for what it's intended for

...kind of like the Explorer. Some DO get used off road, H2's are no different that Ex's for that. Very easy to drive offroad, very insulated ride (not my preference, not my truck), people get what they pay for. 10x better than the other trucks on the same platform - the turning radius alone makes for a much easier to drive truck.

Example crossing the bridge bypass:

This truck was reasonably comfortable with unmaintained roads far smaller than fire roads, in part b/c the driver was comfortable with some Sierra Nevada Pinstripes. Given his 35 years of driving the area in an FJ-40, his assessment that it's good to go pretty much anywhere his "jeep" will go is significant (after unbolting the steps, he qualified!).

Hummers suck!

No hummer has anything on my ALL original, ALL stock, 94' Ex! lol. j/k. I think the hummers are awesome for what their made for, which is to take the driver pretty much anywhere they desire. With the Exception of the H2. I think it was severly stupid to mass produce a truck that is meant to be driven offroad 99% of the time for the public so they can completely waste money on the gas that goes in it so they can drive around town and on the highway with it. But that's what I think of it as an average guy. If I worked for GM, hell yeah it's a great idea cuz there's an endless amount of people out there that have the money to spend on it and the gas that goes in it. I'm sure GM is making lots of mulah off the H2.

I hope they can do more than whats in that video...I could drive a golf cart across that.:p

I would love to have an H1, and would drive the crud out of an H2 too. I'd take one over my explorer any day... but unfortunately I dont have the income to do so. So I shall sit and drool. Couldnt agree more with Brian's comment about it not being much different insomuch as capability between an H2 and an Explorer both straight off the lot, just the price tag. IMO though, you get what you pay for, and the Hummer has a lot more toys, room, comfort...and thirst. :D

Hummer H3

Pics link at the bottom.

I was just reading the latest Truck Trend and saw the "spy" photos of the upcoming Hummer H3. Midsize SUV, with what looks like at least 32" or 33" tires, and around $30 grand. I imagine it'll have a lot of skid plating, low crawl ratio, and a rear locker from the factory. And the aftermarket will surely support it.

Seems like it could fill a niche with a seriously off road minded midsize SUV. Something most of the people on this board (me) are looking to build.:D

I know a lot of people always thought the H1 and H2 were too big.

What do you think?

H3

As long as you can still fit 24s it'll be a market hit.

Still has an IFS front end.. might as well build an IFS Explorer. To get either vehicle to really perform tthey will both need solid axle swaps.
