the official "how jealous of h2s are the offroad guys"? thread

everyone here has a bit more common sense then a hummer h2, there too wide for the trails here it seems, but we see the odd one drive through town, but then again, we see APC's from the military and crap like that drive by.

I like the H2, the tie rods can be fixed, so thats not a huge problem, just get bigger ones! And id think its pretty powerfull when it can snap its own tie rods.

I just took this photo today... This is what $55,000 gets you. A tie rod the size of my pinky to control 35" tires on a 7000lb truck:eek:

Well, those that buy an H2 and plan on really off-roading can, and eventually will, get a larger tie rod. Very easy solution.

It's amazing those parts hold up on the street. I bet a good whack in a Chicago pot hole or a nice curb hit would bend that. I'm sure GM will be upgrading that part soon.

BTW, the replacement kit from FST is $1200.00:rolleyes: I guess if you can afford the 55K truck you can afford the extra $1200 to make sure it can still steer after a good bump.

Probably. And after a year or two of having to replace a million tie-rods under warranty, Hummer will redesign them much better. Definitely the weak link in the vehicle.

do you figure if your doing about 60mph down a highway and happen to run over a racoon with the front tire, perhaps that might be a disaster?

i think the mass of the racoon would be negligible to a 35" tire with 2000lbs on it traveling at 60mph, but i see your point, that'd be funny to see though, an H2 tripping over a racoon :P
