The panels above my break lights are faded!

Really bad! I see other Explorers 95-2001 with the same issue. The paint fades heavily to a greyish color rather than the black it should be. Just wondering what kind of paint should I use to repaint it? I was thinking instead of black I might match it with my 96 Midnight Blue that came on some Explorers but I wasn't sure how much the paint would cost and if it would come in a can?

Just a thought but maybe try polishing and waxing them. I have a 98 and the black part between the front side windows and my rear passenger windows was faded real bad. A few applications of wax and its as shiny as it was new.

i repaited the pillers on my '95 XLT with krylon fusion black paint. easy to do..tape off and spray.


on my '96 limited i toatly got rid of the black area on the hatch. and had the b-pillers on the doors painted to match by a paint/body shop.

Hahah, that's what happens in NYC, no damn trails to get it dirty. Plus that was right after a full wash and wax.

96limitedX / Paraphoe Follow Up

Just wanted to follow up with 96limitedX & Paraphoe to see how the Krylon paint has held up.

Has anyone tried the Krylon Fusion Paint on your plastic bumper cover? Does it work? Does it hold up well? Any special prep?

My nice black Ex Sport has the ugly grey on the bumpers and fender trim and I'd like to paint it black to match the body ... just think it looks much better. From the description of that new paint 'fuzing' with the plastic I'm hoping it would be resistant to flaking and chipping.

we sold my '95 that i used it on..but after 6 months it still looked great. like the day i spray'd it.

they have a product out there called Bulldog, it's a paint adhesion promotor for plastic parts. If i remember correctly you can mix it with auto paint or us is as a precoat to your primer and paint. I did an interior to an eclipse with it and had no problems. The only thing is we used automotive paint to match the exterior from an auto body paint supplier. So I had a coat of bulldog, primer, paint and then clear coat. Good Luck
