As I was pulling into my girlfriends house the explorer shut off as I turned into her driveway, I cranked it back up and was able to park it where it shut off again. We took her car to go to the movies, and when we got back I cranked it up again and it ran fine, as I get back into town, it dies again. I was able to coast off the road. It would start, but would just die if I didnt rev it up, if I reved it, it sounded like it was missing really badly. It was running louder than usual and smoking slightly like it was running rich. Checked all the plugs, and fluids hoping to get off with something simple. My gas was alittle below a quarter of a tank, low but not low enough.
I called my dad to come get me. We managed to get the X into the wal-mart parking lot about 1/2 mile away, sputtering and jumping all the way. We left it there and will call to have it towed to a dealership tomorrow.
What are some things I should expect? How bad does this sound? Something screwed up in the electronics? This is a very high mileage X (245K or so), so its not shocking that something major might have gone, but its still depressing.
Any ideas?
